DE LA HOYA posed a new issue with the DAVIS-GARCIA CONTRACT; IS IT TIME TO TURN OFF THE FIGHT AND CONTINUE?

I want to see Gervonta Davis play Ryan Garcia more than anyone. I really do. I wanted to watch this game more than I wanted to see Jenny Blancas from the block, when I was 18.

But Jenny, like Davis-Garcia, was too perfectionist and, in the end, not worth the effort I put in to flirting with her. It was just too much grief, too much drama, too much trouble… and anyway there was no guarantee that I would actually get anywhere with her. The older I get, the more I realize that life will be a lot simpler and more enjoyable if you ignore the divas.

And in the particular case of Davis-Garcia, it appears that Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter of Garcia, is a diva going on a rampage. I mean, really, how can you think otherwise when he’s literally the only voice whining about contract disputes, deadlines and a ton of other crap.

Most recently, De La Hoya contacted desperate source, ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, to voice a complaint about his latest contract. This time around, the former six-division world champion is protesting the rematch clause in his contract, which can only be exercised if Davis loses.

Oscar asserts that, if Davis loses and Garcia wins, Golden Boy/DAZN will become the promoter and main announcer of the rematch. As the contract is currently in effect, any rematch will retain the current Premiership Boxing Champion (PBC)/Broadcast Processing Time arrangement.

De La Hoya told Coppinger: “We are really one yard below the line; what maintains everything is the rematch clause. “It’s only fair that if Ryan wins, then our side will control everything as faction A. This is just the way it’s always been… Whoever wins is side A. That’s the bottom line. We ‘ don’t reinvent the wheel here.

“Al Haymon is ordering everything…They’ve asked for this, asked for that. Who comes first, the penalties if Ryan is overweight. We gave in, we negotiated and everything. everything is very pleasant. If Ryan loses, for sure, there is no rematch.

“I really hope their team doesn’t fumble with the ball and we don’t have a Super Bowl…We at Golden Boy are just protecting our TV partners. It’s only fair that things would change if Ryan wins.

“We’re trying because we know it’s fair and we feel 1,000% of this fight is going to be done and is the biggest fight of the last few years.”

Obviously, all of this came as a surprise to those actually involved in the Davis-Garcia negotiations.

Showtime Sports boss Stephen Espinoza says it’s the first time he’s actually heard of Oscar’s contention.

“The reality is…no one knows what the Golden Boy’s opening score is,” Espinoza told Chicken Tawk . [Look them up on Twitter and/or Youtube, by the way. They’re doing a great job of presenting timely, bias-free reporting straight from the source’s mouth]. “We sent them the draft amendment last week and we have not received any information. When I read on espn.com that there was only one more problem, it was the first time I heard it because we were trying to collect all the comments. So great. If there’s a problem, there’s still a problem.”

And here’s the part of Oscar’s negotiation via media/social media that delivers the drama that can completely engulf the negotiations. The fuss over an issue ended up tying the Golden Boy’s hands in real negotiations. The executives at his own company had to admit all the problems left in order to solve what the head of their company said was the ONLY remaining barrier to making the fight. . Oscar gave the other side enormous leverage in this final round of negotiations, almost hanging a billboard on Las Vegas Boulevard, saying: “If this fight doesn’t happen, it’s for one thing… We don’t want to admit it. .”

Espinoza has seen this and clearly plans to play the cards given to him by the guy with the new abs and itchy Twitter trigger finger.

“If we’re just talking about one issue then that’s great,” Espinoza said on Chicken Tawk Twitter Space. “We haven’t received any comment from DAZN for weeks… When he says there is a problem, that means DAZN has no comment, Golden Boy has no comment. That’s phenomenal news…I don’t care what the final point is, we really have a point to discuss. That’s great news… I’ll take his word for it. I haven’t seen anything in the text yet…[But] believe me, believe me, that if we get something back in writing and have 15 comments open, I’ll have a lot to say. But I will trust him. There’s ONE open issue, we’re at the one-yard line, there’s an open issue. That’s it. So I won’t have to talk about ANYTHING else, in the universe, about this war, except for that one issue. That’s good news.”

However, the optimism of the Showtime moderator makes me very skeptical, because there is every reason to believe that the Oscars are once again in a bad mood. There is every reason to believe that what will come from the adults in the Golden Boy room may not match what the Golden Boy has presented to the media and via social media.

It’s not hard to see where all of this could lead. So can we skip the movie and move on to other fights?

De La Hoya’s continued publicity thwarts all that Davis-Garcia reeks of egotism and that could very well sink negotiations. A wise old boxing businessman once told me, “If they are negotiating in the media, they are not really serious about making the fight. It’s all about publicity.

Well, whoever is seriously taking this fight, maybe it’s time to think about giving it up for now. Let’s not waste the time of the boxers, fans, and anyone who might actually be prioritizing the effort of organizing this event over promoting themselves. Hell, with Davis’ trial coming up and Garcia’s various problems, there’s no guarantee the boxers will make it through April 15 anyway, even if an agreement is struck.

Back when I was 18 years old, if I hadn’t given up trying to flirt with diva Jenny Blancas, I would never have met Graciela Ponce, who was as hot as summer cement and would do this with her tongue… my god…

Perhaps getting rid of Davis-Garcia will make way for something better and less of a headache put together.
