Davis stops Romero in an interesting throw
By: Sean Crose
Twenty-six wins. Twenty-four by knockout. The main title belts in the three divisions. Gervonta Davis is undoubtedly one of the more interesting and talented fighters in the boxing scene going into Saturday’s bout against Rolando Romero at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. The twenty-seven-year-old Baltimore is placing her WBA lightweight title against 26-year-old Romero. The match between the two undefeated fighters is the main event of the Showtime Pay Per View card and is scheduled for twelve rounds.
Both heavyweights were cautious the first time around, although Romero landed well just before the bell rang. The second time is interesting. Romero has landed hard on his men many times. In fact, Davis has come down from a hit. Davis rose to his feet and landed himself well later in the round. The third saw Davis go into his trench – though Romero certainly landed some notable footage. The fourth was very close, with each man throwing hard, but cautious. Davis may have gotten over it – but the fight was tight.
Each boxer continued to launch powerful shots in the fifth round. Davis screamed because he appeared to be in pain at one point in the round, but performed well. In a tough exchange in the sixth round, Romero knocked Davis down like thunder on the left. Romero stood up but staggered slightly. The referee wisely stopped the game.
