WATCH: PGA Championship fan signs Michelob Ultra after screenshot with Tiger Woods goes viral
Mark Radetic was just an ordinary guy who watched Tiger Woods play at the PGA Championship last week while enjoying a cold beer. Almost everyone else around him pulled out their phones to snap the golf legend on camera, but he did something that seems a bit outdated in the age of camera phones – he’s simply Watch one of the greatest athletes of all time go to work. Michelob Ultra – the brand of beer he was drinking – caught the eye. Raditic has now become part of their advertising and can even get their own limited edition cans.
The whole thing started when a Twitter user pointed out him in a screenshot showing Woods twirling as a crowd of spectators holding their phones stood behind him.
“No cell phones. Just one man watching Tiger with Michelob Ultra,” read the tweet that quickly went viral.
When Michelob Ultra found him, they asked permission to use his image on t-shirts and hats with the tagline “It’s only worth it if you like it.” The company also posted a short Advertisement on social media using viral photos.
“It really worked because everyone was using the camera except me and I was holding a Michelob Ultra,” says Radetic. KMOV. “They said they wanted to run an advertising campaign around it. Ultra offered to give me, as they said, ‘plentiful amounts of Ultra.'”
About a week after the PGA event, the company tweeted a photo of two cans – one white and one blue – and asked social media users which color looked better for the “Michelob Boy” can. Radetic himself preferred white.
Raditic certainly enjoyed the excitement of it all. He even created a Twitter account with the username @MichUltraGuy.
Viral moments like those experienced by Radetic have become entertaining ways for beer companies to cash in on the fun. Earlier this year, Minnesota Timberwolves keeper Patrick Beverley was recommended his own can by Bud Light after he pulled out a beer in the middle of a press conference.
