The Minnesota Racing Commission has announced David Koob as its newest member. Koob was appointed by Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant General Peggy Flanagan effective March 7.
Koob has over 20 years of civil and legal litigation experience and is currently with the Donna Law Firm in Minneapolis. Born in North Dakota, he graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Law and served as an adjunct professor for more than a decade at the Michell Hamline School of Law. He is a member of the Minnesota Bar Association and volunteers as vice president of the Valley Athletics Association, a nonprofit youth sports organization.
Koob’s legal specialties include general liability, employment law, investigative matters, and corporate counsel. He worked alongside the committee’s administrative hearings during his time in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
“The Minnesota Racing Commission is honored and excited about the appointment of Commissioner Koob. Commissioner Koob brings a long history of legal expertise to the commission, and his relationship with both the Commission through. Past work by the public sector as well as the sports community in Minnesota would be extremely helpful,” said executive director Steve May.
Koob will replace James S. Lane III, who announced his retirement from the committee effective at the end of his term in 2021. Lane served on the committee from 2009 and is chairman from 2019-2021.
