Spendthrift discontinued in Australia – BloodHorse

Spendthrift Farm is now decommissioned in Australia and for sale its Spendthrift Australia property.

“This has been a very difficult decision for us,” said Eric Gustavson, owner of Spendthrift. “The Thoroughbred industry in Australia is one of the best in the world and we have great respect for the work they’ve done in building it. We’ve been fortunate to meet so many amazing people there. and enjoyed the experience.”

In April 2015, the late B. Wayne Hughes acquired the former Yallambee Stud in Victoria, a 600-acre farm outside of Melbourne. Spendthrift Australia’s current steed lineup includes Excessive sharing, To swear , Gold Standard , and Dirty work. Over the years, the farm has also closed Bolt d’Oro , Omaha . Beach , and Vino Rosso . It is also home to a mare herd of about 50 mares along with their ponies and cubs.

“We want to thank all of our employees in Australia for their hard work over the years,” said Ned Toffey, General Manager Spendthrift America. “We hit our target at Spendthrift to branch out and try new things. Of course, not every idea works, but I assure you we’ll continue to take that approach.”
