CWG 2022: Bindyarani Devi wins silver medal in women’s 55 kg weightlifting

India’s Bindyarani Devi won a silver medal in the women’s 55 kg weightlifting at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in an impressive style to bring India’s total to four on Saturday. She found a bronze medal when she failed in her second jerk in the 114kg category. But she managed to hit 116 kg with the last lift and managed to shoot to second place, and finished with just 1 kg ahead of gold medalist Adijat Olarinoye from Nigeria. The 23-year-old player lifted a total of 202 kg. She lifted 86 kg in the loop and entered the Commonwealth Games record with a lift of 116 kg in the loop.
Nigeria’s Adijat Adenike Olarinoye also broke the Games records in the jerk and general election with a total of 203kg (92kg 111kg) to win the gold medal.
The domestic favorite Fraer Morrow came in third with a total lift of 198kg (86kg 109kg).

Earlier, Mirabai Chanu brought India its first gold medal while Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary won silver and bronze respectively.
