Coolmore announced on August 10th they have reached an agreement to enter into an undefeated ownership partnership Gulfport , winner of 12 1/4 the length of the Bashford Manor Stakes, and will stand victorious at Ashford Stud in retirement. Gulfport is owned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Jackpot Ranch, and Whisnking Oaks Ranch.
Ashford’s son Uncle Mo of Fame and Fortune multi-stake producer, of Unbridled’s Song, raised in Kentucky by Diamond Creek Farm. Fame and Fortune are full sisters to the level 1 winner Cross Traffic. Gulfport went on sale at Fasig-Tipton 2021 July sale for $275,000 to Pick View out of Eaton Sales shipment.
With coach Steve Asmussen, Gulfport became the first winner on June 10 at Churchill Downs with a seven-long win with five furlongs at: 56.85, 2/5 short of the record. He was followed by his more impressive display at Bashford manor on July 4. His victory was by the widest in the history of the black six-hair event and his time was 1:09.25 is the second fastest in the race. He won a 91 Beyer Speed Figure, the second bronze for a 2-year-old this year.
