Louis Cella, president of Oaklawn Jockey Club, has been appointed to serve on Equibase’s management committee, it was announced Dec. 15 by Equibase president, Ian Highet.
In 2017, Cella was appointed president of Oaklawn, succeeding his late father, Charles Cella, and becoming the third generation of his family to serve on the board of directors of the Northern Thoroughbred Racing Association. America. Cella has been a member of The Jockey Club since 2017 and is director of the Department of Thoroughbred Racing Protection and on the boards of the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame.
Cella fills in a board seat that is being vacated by Daisy Phipps Pulito, racing manager for Phipps Stable, who joined the Equibase Management Committee as a Jockey Club representative in 2016.

The Equibase Management Committee is comprised of members from each of the company’s two general partners – Jockey Club and TRA. TRA representatives are Peter Berube, Happy Broadbent, Christopher McErlean, David O’Rourke, Mike Rogers and Josh Rubinstein. Besides Highet and Cella, representatives of The Jockey Club include C. Steven Duncker, James Gagliano, Stuart Janney III and Nick Nicholson.
