Shoot a 22 now officially announced, bringing a number of new tools and enhancements to the photo editing software, including new features HDR Merging, Panorama Stitching, Auto Rotate, and Wireless Tethering.
Now you can easily merge multiple photos taken at different exposures into a single HDR image with extended dynamic range, or combine multiple photos into a single panorama. You can also use Panoramic Collage to create images with a wide field of view and shallow depth of field.
Auto-rotate is a new AI-powered feature that uses machine learning to evaluate the selected image and balance it. Notably, a series of photos with a glaring horizon line can be straightened automatically, so you don’t have to manually correct each image. Meanwhile, the wireless tethering option — currently only available with Canon cameras — gives users access to the full suite of tethering features. At launch, full support is limited to Canon EOS R5, R3, 1DX II and 1DX III, but support for additional models and brands is promised in the coming months.
The Sony a7 IV, Nikon Z9 and Canon EOS R3 are all now supported in Capture One 22 and support four new Canon lenses. Additionally, Windows users can now browse, filter, and search albums and folders faster, and a new service called Capture One Live (still in beta) lets photographers share images, real-time or captured, for viewing and evaluation through a Web browser.
Capture One 22 is currently available for Windows and macOS, and appears to be optimized for the Apple M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max chips. The software can be purchased as a perpetual license ($299 for new users) or as part of a subscription (starts at $24/month). There are also cheaper, brand-specific versions of the software: $199 for a perpetual license, and subscriptions start at $19/month.
