Bryson DeChambeau listed as part of the pitch for the Players Championship, but no Phil Mickelson


Bryson DeChambeau are lining up to return to the PGA Tour next week. Phil Mickelson Not.

DeChambeau, who hasn’t competed since missing a game at the Farmers Open at the end of January, will attend the Players Championship next week at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Mickelson, who was heavily criticized for his comments on the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s financial backers for a proposed round of secession, also has not taken place since missing the cut at the Security Awards. Farmer’s Insurance Extension.

DeChambeau withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the event he won last year, on Monday, citing he was recovering from a lingering left hand injury.

DeChambeau, 28, has competed in just two official PGA Tour events this season, finishing 25th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions before missing the weekend at Farmers. He ranks 196th in the FedEx Cup rankings.

DeChambeau withdrew from the second round of the Saudi Arabian International in February due to injuries to his left hand and left hip after shooting 3 over 73 in the first round. He later said he was injured one fall earlier that week.

As for Mickelson, this will only be his third Player championship since turning pro; he had previously skipped the events of 1994 and 2003.

Author Alan Shipnuck released an excerpt from his upcoming unauthorized biography of Mickelson two weeks ago. In it, Mickelson described the Saudis as “scary” but said he was looking at their history of controversial human rights abuses to gain leverage with the PGA Tour.

In a statement last week, Mickelson said he is making time for golf “to prioritize the things he loves most and to strive to be the man he wants to be.”

Mickelson’s comments prompted his longtime sponsors, Amstel Light, KPMG and Workday to end their relationships with him. Callaway, who signed him in 2017 for the rest of his career, has also halted its sponsorship with the six-time major champion.
