Brad Binder and KTM break Kyalami Lap record, South Africa’s most probable way

South Africa is a wonderful country and well worth a visit for the wildlife alone (remember the hippos, they are faster than they seem).

But for two-wheelers, we can’t recommend visiting enough Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and spinning a few laps. It’s divine and one of motorsport’s best kept secrets.

A beautiful altitude run, Kyalami is in my Top 5 races to go around the world and it should also be on your bucket list. It’s definitely a circuit we haven’t talked about enough.

Part of the reason for that is because it’s been a long time since Kyalami has seen international motocross races at his peak.

Quite interestingly, however, with the Africa track updated in 2015, the layout is technically new with no lap records set. That’s where Brad Binder and Red Bull come into the equation.

A KTM RC16 will do Kyalami’s 16 laps quickly, especially when a MotoGP racer is at the helm, and it all makes for a good marketing piece.

While we can debate whether their results can be considered official results, this lap time effort “made up” video is well worth watching on Friday afternoon.

It’s fun, light, and visually appealing. Whoever writes this short YouTube script will get a Pulitzer… or at least a raise.

If you want more Brad Binder x Red Bull goodness, we recommend Brad Binder: Becoming 33 years old documentaries too.

KTM may be struggling right now and Brad Binder is still not a big name, but the South African continues to impress with his results and he’s pushing through his weight class in MotoGP.
