For much of the build-up between Shawn Porter and Terence Crawford, coach Brian “Bomac” McIntyre has remained mostly silent.
Like Crawford, Bomac was more interested in quietly putting work behind the scenes. However, with skirmish just hours away, the longtime coach couldn’t hold back when asked what he expected to happen at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight.
Bomac told a group of reporters: “We’re going to beat the boy.
Crawford, 34, as well as his coach, have long been irritated by the same mundane story. While the Omaha, Nebraska product has won world titles in three separate categories and is currently in the midst of a three-year title dominance at 147 pounds, he has yet to face any What elite heavyweights? However, with Porter’s arrival on Crawford’s leaderboard, things were supposed to change.
All that considered, Porter has built his reputation through the all-out wars he has gone through in the ring. While he can wrap heavyweight gold around his waist on two separate occasions, he falls short in some of his biggest fights.
In August 2014, having established himself as world champion, Porter saw his crown end in the hands of Kell Brook via majority decision. Two years later, the Akron, Ohio native, found himself in a candidate of the year matchup against former unified champion, Keith Thurman.
Though Porter has his moments, he will be forced to settle for a decisive defeat. After that disappointing result, Porter went on to win over former two-division champion Danny Garcia, former welterweight star Andre Berto and current WBA belt holder Yordenis Ugas.
Now his second defending world champion, Porter attempted to unify the squad against Errol Spence Jr. For now, however, the 34-year-old has left the ring in disbelief, as he was the failed recipient of the split decision.
Though he competed against the best at 147 pounds and was considered elite, Bomac wasn’t convinced that Porter had what it took to really test his pound-for-pound stardom. As the night of the fighting slowly approaches, Bomac is asking those who will be in attendance, as well as those who will be watching around the world, to simply combine Crawford’s performance later tonight, with his teammates. his career, who struggled with Porter’s relentless pressure.
