Bobcat is safely removed from the grille of the Toyota Corolla

One of the unfortunate things about owning a car is that sometimes a creature decides to make your car its temporary home. For some reason cats, squirrels, mice, marsupials, snakes, lizards, even spiders doesn’t seem to know any better. But at least you can grab a lizard and throw it out the window. If something larger, such as a lynx, gets in, you’ll probably have to call for help.

In case you lost it:

On Thursday, Portage County, Wisconsin, Sheriff Mike Lukas shared on Facebook that someone called in with exactly that problem. Somehow, a lynx got stuck behind the grille of their Toyota Corolla. Thankfully, the owner noticed the big cat was in there before they drove away, because that’s even worse than what happens next.

Because the lynx was so large and dangerous that the sheriff’s deputies couldn’t manage on their own, they had to ask a conservation officer to come and get the lynx out. He was able to hook the cat with a pole and pull it out of the hole in the grille.

As you can imagine, Bob isn’t happy about that, and we can totally see why. Who wants to be dragged out of their Toyota cave safe by you and then thrown into the back of a truck by a man you’ve never met? That is rude. Sure, it’s better than being dragged down the street, but that’s not exactly a fun way to get kidnapped. The good news is, the sheriff’s department just temporarily kidnapped our new favorite lynx, and, according to Sheriff Lukas, released Bob safely back into the wild.

In the end, however, we think the real fault lies with Toyota. If the Corolla’s grille hadn’t been so big that a lynx could have gotten in it, this would never have happened in the first place. Almost no one in product planning thought about this exact scenario when they saw Corolla’s design. But, hopefully, this can be a lesson for all automakers. You have to start making nets that are too small for the lynx to get through and crawl behind. Otherwise, this will continue to happen.
