BMW unveils new M car at Goodwood Festival of Speed

BMW USA confirmed that it will unveil a new car at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Starting June 23-26, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is held at Goodwood House in Chichester, West Sussex. The theme for 2022 is “Innovators – Masters of motorsport”.

BMW M will be held at Central Feature, and the festival will showcase current and historic M cars.

“As BMW M, we feel honored to play a very special role at this year’s Festival of Speed. For our 50th anniversary, we couldn’t imagine a better place to celebrate our products with fans of the brand,” said BMW M CEO Frank van Meel .

“I’m especially looking forward to seeing the world for the first time in a vehicle of some kind – a vehicle we’ve been waiting for a long time.”

Revealed set of M cars could be anything from M3 Touring high performance wagon, to XM Plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV). Both have been well documented in prototype form.

Confirmed for the Australian marketThe M3 Touring is expected to be revealed in June 2022, a perfect fit for the 2022 Festival of Speed.

It is said to be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine that will produce 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque. This is the same motor as the one with higher specifications Competition M3 and Competition M4.

The M3 Touring will come with an exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.

When it is revealed, the new long-top M will be the first mass-produced M3 Touring in the model’s long and long history. The company built only one prototype E46 M3 wagon in 2000.

Another M car that BMW may be preparing to reveal is the XM SUV, which will be the production version of the XM concept and is powered by a V8 petrol engine combined with an electric motor.

The XM is billed as the most powerful M car ever and has a total system output of 550kW and 1000Nm.

At this stage, XM’s main focus is on the US market, although that is the mind of the local division.

In November 2021, a spokesperson for BMW Australia said: “The BMW M brand and the BMW X range of vehicles are very important to Australia – one in five BMWs sold here carries the M badge. and the BMW X vehicle represents more than 60% of our total sales.”

“With that in mind, the BMW Concept XM has immediate appeal to our market. If the production sample is made by us, we will definitely provide it to our customers.”

M2 has was previously tracked in prototype form a number of times and will have more power than the previous M2 Competition, producing 302kW and 550Nm from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.

The regular M2, last seen in 2018, puts out 272kW and 465Nm.

It is also rumored that there will be an even more powerful M2 Competition model, rumored to have power increased to 335kW or even 365kW, with a six-speed manual transmission.

It’s unclear exactly what BMW will reveal at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, but more details will clearly be revealed in the coming weeks.
