Claims that he would declare an end to the campaign were denied, as were reports that he would declare war in full or deploy Russian troops. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the Russian military would not “artificially correct” its actions on any particular date. Something lacking in full mobilization might be announced, in response to major Russian losses on the battlefield, but that could affect the president’s favourites.
