BMW S1000RR gets wings and updates for the 2023 model year

The BMW S1000RR is getting some meaningful updates for the 2023 model year, most of which appear to be targeted at the company’s WorldSBK requirements and Important feedback from journalists and the customer about the previous iteration.

That’s welcome news, because despite our excitement when the current generation S1000RR comes outwe found out that BMW basically wrecked the bike with US specs – adding a giant hole in the middle of the throttle map.

While it looks pretty much the same, the BMW S1000RR doesn’t do anything particularly better than its rival, and in some aspects of the bike (front-brake performance, for example), this machine is nothing short of amazing. outstanding.

It’s hard to know if BMW Motorrad will have fully fixed all of these problems by 2023, but the company has put together an extensive list of improvements to the chassis, bodywork and electronics of the vehicle. car.

BMW Motorrad lists the changes for the 2023 BMW S1000RR as follows:

  • The secondary gear ratio is shorter for more traction at the rear wheels.
  • Enhanced “Flexible Framework” with more flexibility.
  • Chassis shape with new steering angle, deflection, wheelbase and wheelbase.
  • M-frame with adjustable swingarm swing point and raised rear end.
  • Dynamic traction control system DTC with new Sliding Control function to slide during acceleration using the steering angle sensor.
  • ABS Pro with the new Brake Assist function uses the steering angle sensor to brake sharply when cornering.
  • Install ABS Pro “Slick”
  • Aerodynamics is optimized with a new front section, a spoiler, a tall windshield and a partition of the lower triple clamp.
  • M lightweight battery as standard.
  • USB charging port in the rear part.
  • The rear end is redesigned and the number plate holder is shorter.
  • Redesigned harness for easier removal of license plate brackets.
  • Black clutch cover and alternator.
  • Rear wheel removal is easier due to anti-lost shaft bushings, chamfered brake pads and brake anchor plates.
  • The M GPS mouse adapter is part of the BMW Motorrad series of genuine accessories.
  • The new GoPro mount as part of the BMW Motorrad series of genuine accessories.
  • Three finishes: Metallic Black, Passion Style in Non-metallic Racing Red and Non-Metallic off-white / BMW M.

Notably, power is still 205 hp quoted for the US market, with maximum torque reaching 83 lbs • ft.

The addition of a spoiler to the BMW S1000RR is almost a certainty, and it’s a trait taken from the company’s higher-end M1000RR.

Their shape has been tweaked and we think their performance has been increased, with the German brand claiming they produce 22 lbs of downforce, though they don’t disclose this happens at speed any.

Starting with an MSRP of $17,895 and available in January 2023, BMW hopes to regain some of the ground it lost in the superbike segment with this reboot. Time will tell if they succeeded.
