by BMW Classic sport naked bike is getting a new version generation This year. And to mark the occasion, its name has another number, this time a digit. BMW R 12 NineT will take over from R NineT product line. Details are a bit thin at the moment, but BMW has provided plenty of photos of a version of the motorbike and a few basics.
As you can guess from the “12” in the name, the engine has a displacement of 1.2 liters (up or down a few cubic centimeters). However, that’s no different from the current model. And the new model is still an air- and oil-cooled flat twin. The current bike makes 109 hp and eighty six pound-feet of torque and we wouldn’t be surprised if the R 12 stays in that ballpark.
The basic layout also seems to be the same. It’s a tubular spaceframe with a bolted rear subframe. The front wheel is a reverse fork with dual discs brake with four-piston calipers. A single swing arm holds the rear and power is transmitted through the drive shaft, not the chain. Both wheels were spokes and were 17 inches in diameter, like today’s bicycles.
The styling is also clearly relevant but has certainly been updated. The fuel tank and lid have sharper creases, and the back cover also looks a bit taller than some current R NineTs. It helps to modernize the design of the bike.
Just like the current NineT, the R 12 NineT will likely be offered in a variety of designs, including scrambler-style versions and possibly a basic “Pure” version. These versions will likely feature different front headlight and saddle designs, possibly cast wheels instead of spokes, and possibly even some suspension changes (Pure currently has them. standard front fork instead of reverse stroke).
The full specifications of the R 12 NineT will launch this fall. It will probably be available shortly. Pricing will likely be about the same as today’s model. For reference, the regular R NineT starts at $16,640. Other variants are available for less, with the cheapest Pure version being $11,690.
