The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N debuted on Thursday at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed as Hyundai’s first electric performance model, but one that attempts to mimic internal combustion cars.

The dual-motor all-wheel drive system generates 600 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque, and 641 hp and 568 lb-ft in bursts of 10 seconds when using the function. N Grin Boost feature. That acceleration comes with simulated internal combustion engine noise. N Active Sound+ uses eight internal speakers and two external speakers to play three different audio themes, with the sound activated using the throttle input. Theme Ignition regenerates the 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine used in other Hyundai N models — including artificial overtaking and booms. However, the other two options offer a more futuristic, non-ICE sound.
The Ioniq 5 N also has an 84 kWh battery pack—larger than the 77.4 kWh battery pack of other models. The package also adds cooling from the reshaped front bumper and the front air-conditioning system is adjusted to different driving modes. In Drag mode, the temperature is set at 86-104 degrees Fahrenheit, but drops to 68-86 degrees for Track mode. N Race mode optimizes battery for track sessions, with Endurance and Sprint options respectively for longer or shorter runs.
Hyundai also reinforced the body structure with 42 additional welding points and 6.9 feet of additional bonding material. The engine and battery mounting points, the front and rear subframes, and the steering column have also been reinforced. A higher steering ratio with greater torque response is also used, which can help overcome the rather vague steering on the standard Ioniq 5 N models.

The Ioniq 5 N is 0.8 inches lower than the standard Ioniq 5 and 3.2 inches longer thanks to a new front bumper and rear diffuser connected to the rear spoiler. 2.0-inch wider fenders, wider track width support and 275/35 Pirelli P Zero performance tires on 21-inch wheels.
Hyundai has fitted the Ioniq 5 N with powerful brakes, with a 15.7-inch rotor and 4-piston calipers at the front and a 14.2-inch rotor with single-piston calipers at the rear. , but the company expects regenerative braking to provide 80-90% of deceleration on the road and 40-50% on the track. According to Hyundai, the Regen can deliver up to 0.6g of braking force and recover up to 44% of the powertrain’s energy on the track. The brake and accelerator pedals can also be used at the same time.
A system called N Pedal also uses negative torque to put more weight on the front wheels for improved handling, while N Torque Distribution can adjust power transmission from front to rear via 11 settings. An electronic limited-slip rear differential and the N Drift Optimizer are also included, the latter of which allows this all-wheel-drive EV to traverse like a rear-wheel drive car.
Hyundai Ioniq 5Wonder
The Ioniq 5 N is expected to launch later this year, potentially competing with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y Performance and Kia EV6 GT, which shares the Ioniq 5’s E-GMP platform. Sold in the US, the EV6 GT is less powerful than the Ioniq 5 N, at 576 hp and without Hyundai’s array of performance tech. We’ll see if the Ioniq 5 N can also improve on the Kia 206 mile EPA range rating.
Hyundai has also suggested that a ioniq 6 N is in development, though it’s unclear if that model will receive all of these interface and performance improvements.
