The second PGA Tour event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is underway with players making the trip from Memphis, Tennessee, to Wilmington, Delaware, for this week’s BMW Championship. Adam Scott leads a group of huge names with a one-shot lead after Round 2, setting up for what should have been another tight finish heading into the weekend.

As the penultimate tournament since the start of the FedEx Cup, the BMW Championship continues to rotate between golf courses in the Midwest and Northeastern United States.

Wilmington Country Club takes center stage this time in its PGA Tour debut. Will Zalatoris, after his breakout victory at the St. Jude, hopes to keep the momentum going for the design of Robert Trent Jones Sr. With a strong finish, he could fully secure the top of the FedEx Cup standings ahead of the Tour Championship.

While Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns may have something to say about this, Cameron Smith doesn’t. Due to hip discomfort, FedEx Cup No. 3 will not participate in the BMW Championship. That, coupled with Tommy Fleetwood having to leave the game for personal reasons, caused 68 players to leave the field.

Equally fascinating is the fact that the top of the rankings is the bottom of the table, with many players vying for their first Tour title. The top 30 players will enter the tournament next week and with it will be exempted from three major championships. This makes the BMW championship all the more important considering that Davis Riley (No. 27), Sahith Theegala (No. 28), Maverick McNealy (No. 33) and Denny McCarhty (No. 36) are yet to participate.
