BMW 3.0 CSL 2023 revealed

BMW car revealed its two exclusive seats 3.0 CLScelebrates the 50th anniversary of the M division by resurrecting the iconic nameplate from its early days.

Just 50 units of the 3.0 CSL will be produced within three months by a team of 30 technicians, with handcrafted carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. Each model will take up to 10 days to roll off the production line.

It is unlikely that any of these will go to Australia. BMW hasn’t revealed the price yet, but it is rumored to be between 600,000 and 700,000 euros ($923,610 to $1.07 million).

BMW said M4-derived 3.0 CSL was developed “with the aim of combining the best of BMW M GmbH’s five decades of racing experience in a car with an emotional aura” and using the name of a special edition model. E9-based homologous distinction from 1972, of which 1265 was built.

Naturally, it uses classic BMW M features such as the inline six-cylinder engine, manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

CSL stands for “Coupe, Sport, Leichtbau” – the latter means light weight, and indeed BMW has aimed to reduce weight.

CFRP components are used on almost all bodywork components, including the hood, bonnet, trunk lid, fenders, door sills and rear spoiler.

The roof spoiler is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic and the titanium rear silencer is about 4.3kg lighter than the steel component.

The 3.0 CSL features the most powerful inline six engine ever used in a road-legal BMW M vehicle.

Factory twin turbocharger production 412kW power and 550Nm of torque – a 7kW increase on the M4 CSL – and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, with drive sent to the rear wheels.

There’s a double-joint spring strut front and five-link rear axle, with an Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The 3.0 CSL has an electromechanical M Servotronic steering system with variable ratio and an Active M Differential at the rear.

It uses M carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston fixed calipers and 400x38m ceramic discs at the front and single-piston fixed brake calipers and 380x28mm ceramic discs at the rear.

You can choose between two pedal feel curves using the vehicle’s settings menu, while traction control can be adjusted between 10 levels, including turning stability control off completely. in M Dynamic Mode.

Despite being a limited model, BMW says the 3.0 CSL has undergone extensive testing, including crash tests on two pre-production models and 200 hours of aerodynamic testing.

BMW has given it a different look than the M4, with pronounced wheel arches and a large rear spoiler that resembles the original of the 1970s.

Under the wheel arches are forged light-alloy wheels, locked in the middle, measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear and painted in gold.

They are wrapped in Michelin tires developed specifically for the 3.0 CSL, bearing the number 50 on the sidewalls.

There’s a redesigned kidney grille with a diamond-patterned insert and the frame is finished in satin aluminum to match the window trim, along with the Laser Light headlights that shine in gold.

Two large, functional air intakes stand out in the front spoiler, reminiscent of the 1970s model’s air intakes, while sculpted radiator grilles sit on the bonnet and a deflector. wind direction extending along the roof contour.

At the rear, a prominent rear spoiler is encased on the side, while an air deflector can be deployed around the rear section.

There are four air vents in the center of the rear fender, while the taillights use embossed laser light filaments to give the graphics a free-floating hologram.

The 3.0 CSL is finished in the iconic BMW color scheme, with an Alpine white bodywork with blue, purple and red stripes.

While the exterior makes extensive use of carbon components, the lettering can only be seen on the roof and on the rear spoiler. In total, it took six business days to complete the exterior paint job of each 3.0 CSL.

In another nod to the 1970s, the BMW logo is placed on the C-pillar behind the Hofmeister bend, a design element absent from the current M4.

Unique touches inside include the exclusive white gearshift knob, CFRP trim on the door panels and reduced soundproofing.

The driver and passenger sit on M Carbon bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara leather, with height and tilt exclusively adjusted via a three-stage screw link in the workshop.

There is no rear seat, instead a storage compartment with two built-in helmet compartments.

Dark cabin with anthracite roof panels, Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and matte carbon surfaces marked with numbers.

While the usual gift for the 50th anniversary is gold, for the BMW M it is given a variety of new products, from special editions of M3 and M4for a new bespoke flagship SUV in XMcome hot M4 CSL.
