This month, the FBI finally got hold of one of the 10 most wanted criminals. Drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero has been on the run from the US government since 2013, when he was released from a Mexican prison for technical crimes.
The ultimate credit for this decades-long hunt goes entirely to a dog named Max, who works with the Mexican Marines. The 6-year-old hound is responsible for capturing Quintero.
Max Sniffs Out Crime
According to authorities, Max found Quintero fleeing in the bushes in Sinaloa, Mexico, on July 15, 2022. You can run, but you can’t hide from Bloodhound.
Dog nose is about 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than humans, depending on breed, and Bloodhounds have a particularly powerful nose. These dogs have the most scent receptors of any breed. They are capable of identifying subtle, lingering scents from long distances, as Max’s discovery indicates.

Officially, Quintero is wanted for the kidnapping, torturing, and murder of a US Drug Enforcement Administration agent in 1985. Max found him in Mexico, but he will be extradited to the United States. state right now (not sure how long it will take).
One Official release from the Department of Justice read:
“There is no refuge for anyone who kidnaps, tortures, and kills American law enforcement. We are extremely grateful to the Mexican authorities for their arrest of Rafael Caro-Quintero. Today’s arrest is the culmination of the tireless work of the DEA and their Mexican partners to bring Caro-Quintero to justice for his alleged crimes, including torture and executes DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. “
What about the bonus?
As you can see, the release doesn’t really give Max credit. There’s a $20 million bounty on Quintero’s head, so it’s a good idea to at least spend some money on this good dog for a job well done.
I’m not the only one with this opinion. A lot of people on the internet have been calling for Max to get the bounty (joke or not):

In fact, Max probably doesn’t get much more than praise and pats for his heroism. Regardless, there’s no denying the importance of a scent hound’s job.
