Blind Elderly Predator Survives After Going Missing For Weeks In Alaska

The Kubacki family lives in Sitka, Alaska with their sweet Lulu Golden Retriever. The dog grew up there, growing up with the kids in the family. Now a senior in high school, Lulu has lost most of her eyesight.

On June 18, 2022, Lulu wandered and suddenly disappeared. The family was extremely worried about their elderly puppy, now forced to navigate back to their homeland of Alaska without actually being able to see.

“She’s so helpless”

As time has passed since Lulu’s disappearance, her family’s worries have grown even more. Ted Kubacki, the patriarch of the family, expressed his concern to the Daily Sitka Sentinel:

“She was so helpless, and you can imagine that she couldn’t get very far because she couldn’t see.”

The five young girls in the family are also heartbroken over the loss of their best friend. They searched for weeks without success.

“She means everything. I have five daughters and they are 4 to 13 years old, so they spent every day of their lives with that dog,” Kubacki said.

Tired but still a survivor

Weeks later, on July 5, a construction crew working on the road from Kubackis thought they saw a bear at the bottom of an embankment (something not unusual in this part of the land. country). But it has no bear.

“They took a closer look and realized it was a dog, and they got her out of there,” Kubacki said.

Lulu has somehow persisted all the time, could not see and had no food or water. That’s a strong old woman!

“I called my wife from work and she was just screaming… She started screaming, then she yelled at the kids. And I just heard them screaming like crazy,” Kubacki shared.

However, poor Lulu was in bad shape when they found her. She had lost 23 pounds, her coat was dirty and shaggy, and she was severely dehydrated.

“I just want to come back and say, ‘Hey, this is my dog. She would jump up and wag her tail and kiss me in the face, and she wouldn’t even be able to lift her head. She went through the overlock machine. “

However, it is hard to believe that she survived and she was found. Thanks God she hung there until she can return to her family.

“We have family members’ homes,” Kubacki said.

Live and be grateful

With medical care, nutrition and rest, Lulu’s condition has gradually improved. Now she can stand on her own and show affection again.

“Slowly but surely she started eating and she was able to hold her head up. But then yesterday she leaned on her front paws all by herself, nestled in me and gave me a kiss and wagged her tail and it was amazing.”

Aware of the turmoil they had to go through during her absence, residents of Sitka donated hundreds of dollars to the family to help cover Lulu’s medical bills. Letting your dog go missing is a horrible experience, so it’s always touched to see a lost dog coming home peaceful.
