Usually, we hear about blind guide dogs, but one cat happily accepted a species role swap to help dog’s best friend navigate life.
When feather and feathered mother Robin Wagner adopted a German Shepherd/Greyhound combo Blaze, the cat Satin welcomed the extra-large dog into their home in Burlington, Vermont, with open paws. Blaze had grown up and had a habit of stepping on a black cat, but Satin didn’t mind. She had found a fluffy friend to be with, even if he was blind in one eye and weak in the other. And when a bit of Blaze’s vision is gone, Satin will always be there to help her friend find her way.
Best friend from the beginning
Seeing Blaze’s photo on Petfinder, Robin learns that the giant hound intends to join her family. And once she reached the permanent home in her arms, Blaze immediately befriended the cat Satin and Robin’s resident hedgehogs. And while the brushes are cute, Blaze’s heart belongs to Satin.

Satin was trampled in stride because that’s just what friends do. And when a visit with a veterinary ophthalmologist revealed Blaze was completely blind in his right eye and needed corrective surgery in his left, Satin helped Blaze adjust as his vision began to deteriorate further. and eventually disappeared completely. However, for all her love for Blaze, Satin realized that she would have to do something if her eighty-pound friend were to step on all the time!

Satin also used the meow warning technique when sharing hugs with Blaze in bed to solve some problems.
Robin explains: “When Blaze jumps up, Satin will rush out of the room before stepping on her. “But over time, we noticed Satin stayed where she was and gave Blaze a great meow. He will stop and walk around her. “
And now, the two are cuddling to the end, with Robin even sharing a photo of the two “holding hands” on Instagram.
A cat with natural eyes
Since Satin is such a great cat, she decided meowing to prevent the act of stomping on the spot could also help Blaze navigate the house.

After losing his eyesight, Blaze struggled with confidence. But Satin and Robin never gave up on helping him find happiness again. Robin worked with professional coaches to help ease Blaze’s anxiety. Satin shows him he always has a friend by his side to help him find his way in the world.
Robin said: “I think Blaze’s blindness made Satin and Blaze become closer. “While she’s not the most affectionate and cuddly of the cats with us, she definitely tells Blaze she loves him, and that’s the most beautiful thing to see.”
