Blackmagic Design has announced the “second generation” of Pocket Cinema Camera 6Kclosely resembles its slightly more expensive sibling, Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. The only obvious external difference is the rear pair of buttons for adjusting the built-in motorized ND filter on the “Pro” version — the new model does not have a built-in ND filter. The BMPCC 6K G2, as it is called, has the same S35 sensor of 6.144×3,456 pixels and the Canon EF lens mount as Original 6K BMPCC, but boasts the brighter 5-inch (1,500 nit) tilting HDR touchscreen of the “Pro” model, a higher capacity NP-F550 battery, and optional electronic viewfinder support that works with the “Pro” model. Like both its predecessor and the “Pro” model, the new camera offers a dual-increment ISO of up to 25,600 and a claimed dynamic range of 13 stops. According to Blackmagic, the BMPCC 6K G2 uses “the same 5th generation color science as the high-end URSA Mini Pro 12K”, which promises even more accurate colors and you get a newly designed “dynamic 12-bit gamma curve”. designed to obtain more color data in highlights and shadows.
