Club Riesa has created a technical and difficult track for the best riders in the world, with the stone bridge above a tunnel causing trouble for many to cross it. Even Billy Bolt (GBR-Husqvarna) has been caught in this spot multiple times, despite flying past it with amazing ease in the SuperPole.

The evening started well for the Briton, although a heavy landing in the vertical jump on the fifth lap of the first race allowed Jonny Walker (GBR-Beta) to take the series lead. Although Walker briefly took the lead, Bolt soon regained control, just a few turns after touching the ball. Bolt twisted the knife by beating the Beta racer by almost three seconds. At the end of this first race, viewers began to imagine another ‘impregnable’ evening for Billy.

In the second race, the heat of the back net saw Blake Gutzeit (SFA-TM) snatch Airoh Holeshot and take the lead. Following closely behind was Dominik Olszowy (POL-GasGas), the Young Champion of 2022 who had a much better night than the opening night.

The Poles led the first laps of this round with authority, but in the end, the GasGas rider was overwhelmed by the intense battle between Bolt and Walker, and when the Beta rider knocked out his riding opponent. his husky, and they both fell into the soft sand.

Olszowy temporarily regained the lead, but once back in the saddle, the British battle continued and Bolt quickly prevailed. Just when we thought Bolt was on the way to another win, he got an unusual bump while climbing the bridge. Fighting against gravity, Bolt watched as Walker swoop through and take first place. Despite incurring a hefty fee at the end of the race, Bolt was unable to close the gap between him and the Beta driver.

Meanwhile, Taddy Blazusiak (POL-GasGas) dropped to second place and regained form. The GasGas driver missed the finish line while holding a checkered flag and slipped into the path of a chasing Bolt, who hit Blazusiak roughly. Thankfully, the two riders escaped the collision without serious injuries, with Pole sustaining a minor shoulder injury. Jonny Walker has finally ended Bolt’s streak of winning Riesa – he’s been unbeaten here since 2020!

The final race in the Prestige category was just as competitive and spectacular as the previous one. On the first lap of the final race, Bolt went down the bridge again, and Jonny Walker seemed to enjoy winning.

Four minutes to the end of the race, Walker led Bolt by more than ten seconds. But Husqvarna’s riders could never be counted and he did his best to regain the lead…which he did on the last lap of the race.

Taddy Blazusiak managed to fight back after his horrific crash to climb to the third step of the final podium. Thus, the Polish legend stepped onto the podium first of the season. But the evening was once again marked by Bolt/Walker domination.

Bolt left Germany with 14 points ahead of Walker. Blazusiak is 37 points behind Bolt and just two points ahead of Webb.

Billy Bolt – P1

“I tormented myself tonight, but I’m glad I finally came out on top. The whole night was pretty busy and to be honest, I made too many stupid mistakes. I raised my hand for that. Speed is there, but with only a good line on the track, it is easy to make mistakes. Maybe tonight is to shake off that Christmas break, but I feel I have room for improvement for the third round. Overall, I’ve topped the podium and extended my lead, so I’m happy with the result and looking forward to Budapest.”

Taddy Blazusiak – P3

“It was a tough night, but it ended wonderfully. I wasn’t happy with how the first half went, so I wanted to improve and recover after that. In the first race, I finished third, but then hit a rock and fell to the last place. I regrouped and got seventh there. For the rest of the night, I just fought as hard as I could. I am extremely happy to have finished third and finished on the podium.”

Junior/European

While Mitch Brightmore (GBR-GasGas) shined in the night of Krakow, his younger brother Ashton Brightmore (GBR-GasGas) won this second GP impressively in the Junior category. The two young brothers have really been phenomenal this season and it’s important to remember that the German Grand Prix is only their second time taking part in the SuperEnduro.

Only Milan Schmueser (GER-Sherco) has won one of the six races that have taken place in Junior so far. The German, who was announced as the most popular student in his class, was hunted down by his British brothers.

This weekend, it’s 16-year-old Ashton’s turn to steal the show. Second in the first race after Schmueser, he finished second in the back-net race behind his brother. The youngster ended the proceedings by leading the evening’s final race to power. It is impressive to see such dominance on a track configuration so different from the opening lap in Poland.

It is no longer in question; The Brightmore brothers are two pure talents in this field. Remember the name, for sure they will continue to fly Union Jack high in the future. Mitch leads the championship standings by just eight points ahead of Ashton, Schmueser is undefeated and the German is just nine points behind the category leader.

This is my second round of SuperEnduro and I can’t believe I won tonight. I tried to start well in the last game and keep the lead. I made a mistake on the bridge in the last race and I was really worried that someone would pass me, but I managed to keep first place. I’m on the moon for the final win here tonight.”

Having ridden in UK trials, Dan PEACE won his first appearance in the European SuperEnduro category. The British put their Sherco in front of Hungarian Mark Szoke’s Sherco. Another Hungarian, Roland Liszka (KTM), climbed to the last step of the podium after three frantic races, once again sending the fans on Riesa’s SachsenArena in shock.

The 2023 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship continues with the third round in Budapest, Hungary on February 4.
