Berlanga Doesn’t Care by Dry Knockouts
Rising star Edgar Berlanga (19-0, 16 KOs) is hoping for an explosive performance when he takes on Alexis Angulo (27-2, 23 KOs) tomorrow night.
The New Yorker with Puerto Rican heritage looked like he was going 20-game unbeaten as he took to the middle of the stage at the Hulu Theatre, Madison Square Garden during Puerto Rico Weekend.
After 16 matches started, 16 opponents fell No one made it past the first round. However, the record ended when Desmond Nicholson, Marcelo Esteban Coceres and Steve Rolls has gone away with Berlanga in his last three battles.
“It’s part of the process,” Berlanga said in his final press conference.
“I am young, 25 years old. What can I say? I had 16 knockouts in the first round, so I didn’t really get the experience needed. Certainly, these last three matches, I gained the necessary experience. That is the most important thing to turn you into a real professional athlete. But not only that, at the top level you need those rounds. You need to feel like getting to the 1/8, 10th round and we’ve done that.
“I just want to perform, boom as always and bring the old Edgar Berlanga back.”
