Beloved guide dog dies after being left in trainer’s hot car for 5 hours


When you send your beautiful black lab to a professional for training, you expect them to receive the highest quality of care. Michelle is excited when her guide dog and best friend Milton learn an exciting new skill that allows her to spend more time in the classroom.

Now, her dreams have been shattered, and she is living her worst nightmare.

The three-year-old Black Lab has returned to the Guide Dog Foundation so he can learn to sit still while his mother is taking classes at the Helen Keller National Center. But while Milton looked after his coaches, he was left in a car in their parking lot and forced to face the harsh heat inside.

Poor Milton was locked in their truck from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a day when the temperature outside reached 90 degrees.

But Milton was not only Michele’s guide dog for two beautiful years, he was also her best friend. His mother spent 15 long years searching for the ideal dog before she met Milton.

“He is my guardian angel. He was by my side all the time. I’m very sad, because I don’t know how I would have continued without him,” she said.

Michelle was born with Usher syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes hearing loss and an eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa. Over time, her vision and hearing will continue to deteriorate, and currently, there is no cure. Eventually, she will be completely blind and deaf.

But because of Milton, Michelle finally had the courage to spend time outside of her family. His protection and presence completely changed her life.

“He gave Michelle a whole new lease on life, a whole new perspective. Tom Krupa, Michelle’s husband, says:
