Behind the scenes of Antarctic Photography

There are a handful of places in the world that are simultaneously beautiful to photograph and extremely difficult to visit, but Antarctica is one of them. In this video, James Popsys gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the trip there and the wonders that await you.

When it comes to the beauty of the world, I find myself drawn to places that are cold, not hot. Norway and Iceland are two of my favorite trips so far and I can’t wait to return to them. There is something tranquil, brutal, and enchanting about the scale and conditions of these extreme locations.

Of course, one of the pinnacle of those conditions is Antarctica, but it’s very difficult to get to. It is the coldest, windiest and driest continent on earth, and as a result very few people live there. What it does have, however, is some jagged and whimsical landscapes, rare wildlife, and unusual weather, making it a hotspot for photographers.

In this video, James Popsys demonstrates the challenges and rewards of visiting his home in Antarctica, talking to you about the difficulties he faces. I was pleased to see that during a tumultuous and stormy period, all of us photographers on deck had their cameras out! We are a strange breed.
