BBC believes there is a conspiracy to promote climate conspiracy theories – Stand out for that?

Shade is everywhere: The possibility that people might want to opt out of the climate lockdown and have the Covid lockdown as they please doesn’t appear to be happening to BBC conspiracy theorists.

Truthfully Denying Climate Denial: How Conspirators Are Shifting Focus

By Marianna Spring

Members of an online movement infected with pandemic conspiracies are shifting their focus – and increasingly peddling falsehoods about climate change.

Matthew firmly believes that the forces of darkness are behind two of the greatest news stories of our timeand that he must not tell the truth.

“This whole campaign of propaganda and fear is an attempt to try and promote some program of work,‘ he said. ‘It doesn’t matter if it’s climate change or a virus or something else.’

And recently, groups like the one he’s on have been sharing misleading statements not only about Covid but also about climate change. He considers “Vivid and Climate Propaganda” to be part of the same so-called conspiracy.

White rose network

It is part of a larger model. The anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination Telegram groups, once focused exclusively on the pandemic, are now fueling the climate change debate with the very same conspiracy stories they use to explain the pandemic.

The posts go beyond criticism and political debate – they’re filled with disinformation, fake stories, and fake science.

According to researchers at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), an organization that studies global disinformation trends, some anti-lockdown groups have become contaminated by misleading posts about disinformation. climate change is overblown, or even a so-called “hoax” designed to control people.

ISD’s Jennie King said: “There is an increasing amount of terminology around Covid-19 measures being used to induce fear and campaign against climate action.

This is not really a climate issue as a policy issue, she said.

“The reality is that these are really neat vectors to get to on topics like power, individual freedom, self-determination, citizenship against the state, loss of traditional way of life — to put all these ideas into perspective. that idea reaches a wider audience.”

One group that has adopted such ideas is White Rose – a network of locally run subgroups around the world, from the UK to the US, Germany and New Zealand – where Matthew came across it.

“It’s not run by one or two people,” explains Matthew. “It’s a decentralized community organization, so you get the stickers and then post them on lampposts and things like that.”

While we talked, he mentions “The Great Reconstruction” – a baseless conspiracy theory that a global elite is using the pandemic to establish a shady New World Order, a “super government” that would control the lives of citizens around the world.

The Great Reset is a publicity program promoted by the World Economic Forum, the group that organizes the annual $50,000/ticket event in Davos, Switzerland. A simple google search will bring up the WEF page near the top of the search list. The page cites Covid and climate change as justifications for their program.

In my opinion, there is room for debate about the true nature of the Great Reset program, but calling it “baseless”, as non-existent, preferably ignorant, and much lower by the BBC journalistic standards we once thought we were entitled to expect.

As for the White Rose network, I have never heard of it. I have no doubt that White Rose and many similar groups exist, in our uncertain world, there are many interested people looking for like like-minded friends. But some groups are run by people with their own agendas who are not acting in the best interests of their members, and any important groups will be closely monitored by the government, so I strongly suggest caution to anyone involved in large private social media groups.

In the UK there is a “Malicious Communication Action”, makes the distribution of written material offensive or disturbing, has been arrested those campaigning against the UK government’s Covid policy. I am not a lawyer, but in my opinion it is only a matter of time before this action is used against opponents of other high-priority government policies in the UK. Be careful of the electronic footprints you leave behind, your words can be misinterpreted. Above all, obey the law, wherever you live.
