Battlefield 2042 Update #2 is live now

After release Battlefield 2042 in an unreleased state, Dice today took a step toward fixing and perfecting it by releasing a small patch to adjust weapon balance and fix some bugs. The projectile propagation on all guns except shotguns is reduced which, for starters, makes them more accurate. The clunky seaplane was also less lethal. And they’ve wiped out bugs, including the one that caused players to get stuck, unable to respawn. Read on to know more.

Update #2 is living across all platforms and here’s the overview:

  • Ammo spread has been reduced on all weapons except Shotguns. This will lead to better accuracy during gameplay
  • Increases PP-29’s vertical recoil to ensure that the weapon doesn’t overwork when operating outside of its intended combat range
  • MD540 Nightbird Mounted 20mm Cannon – we’re reducing the radius that projectiles deal damage on impact and their splash damage
  • KA-520 Super Hokum – 30mm Cannon (side mount) – we’re reducing overall damage and the range at which bullets deal full damage, while increasing overall bullet spread
  • AH-64GX Apache Warchief and KA-520 Super Hokum – 30mm Cannon – we are reducing the radius that bullets deal damage on impact and their splash damage
  • We’ve reduced the Minigun’s overall damage for all Land Vehicles, along with the ammo damage reduction starting earlier
  • The armor fitted to the LCAA Hovercraft has been adjusted to increase vulnerability to different weapons
  • General stability improvements have been made to prevent rare instances of game crashes
  • Fixed an issue where players killed near obstacles like walls or water could not respawn
  • Resolved cases where players were stuck in a dead state and could not respawn. We also introduced a hidden timer that will fire after 30 seconds from idle that will force redeployment if it is required
  • Breakout matches will now end correctly once the final zone has been captured
  • Resolved an issue that caused players queuing up for a match in the Battlefield Portal to be returned to the menu, instead of joining the match when available

They’ve also reactivated the UAV-1 in Battlefield Portal mode, increasing its missile damage and decreasing its healing.

These are just overviews of the changes, so take a look Update patch notes 0.2.2 for specific numbers on most of those weapon changes.

Ed said in our Review Battlefield 2042 last week that the game simply “didn’t seem ready.” He said that Halo Infinite feels certain in a way that other recent major shooters don’t.

Dice this week make a plan for three patches this year, of which this is the first. “Important” update #3 will be done in early December. They also said they are “carefully evaluating” popular requests for the return of features like voice chat, scoreboards and more. endgame and server browser. They say they have “so many” they want to talk about them but not right now. A massive team-based multiplayer game launching without voice chat is a bit too wild.

Okay, now how about swimming in the sky?
