A complete guide to the cabins and suites on Cunard Line cruise ships

In its more than 180-year history, Cunard line has evolved from providing essentials transatlantic transportation to resort tourism. The company’s current fleet offers several cabin classes with luxurious interiors and modern amenities that still evoke liner style. Although the options may seem confusing at first, they are quite easy to understand once broken down.

Across interior, exterior, balcony and suite categories, Cunard offers four accommodation categories, each with its own private dining room. Regardless of cabin type, passengers have access to the same public areas – including the pool and sundeck, gym, theater and spa. Some categories have their own lounges and outdoor spaces, though.

The area of ​​the cabin varies depending on the ship and location on board. Cabin configurations also vary by ship. Multiple configurations can exist in the same cabin type, which creates differences in area. Cunard cabin primer

They’re divided into four experience levels – Britannia, Britannia Club, Princess Grill and Queens Grill – each with different perks, inclusions and dining duties. Britannia cabins only come with interior, exterior, and basic balcony types, while Britannia Club rooms only come with balcony types. The latter rooms are a step above basic balcony accommodation in the Britannia. Cruise ships placed in these categories will be accommodated in the Britannia Dining Room or the Britannia Club Restaurant respectively.

Passengers wanting an enhanced experience — complete with more space, extra perks and more expensively appointed accommodations — will want to look to the Princess Grill Suites and Queens Grill Suites. Standard staterooms have the feel of any cabin on a mass market ship, while Grill rooms are furnished with more elegant furnishings and richer colors (think regal hues like purple and red), as well as more luxurious furniture and linens.

Depending on the suite booked, you’ll find walk-in closets, separate living and sleeping areas, and bathrooms with higher-quality amenities (such as marble countertops). and mirrors with integrated makeup lights). Cunard offers many varieties accessible room in all cabin types, from interior cabins to suites. They are designed for passengers who use wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and other mobility devices or who require features such as wider doors, flat entry thresholds, additional space for mobility and wet tub style bathrooms with grab bars and pull down shower seats. Cunard was one of the first cruise lines to offer single occupancy accommodations – something that has become standard on many cruise lines’ newest ships. You will find an option cabin alone in the ocean view and indoor categories under the Britannia experience if you’re traveling alone and don’t want to pay a surcharge. Previous sizes range from 152 to 243 square feet; the latter ranges from 133 to 201 square feet.

All rooms, regardless of type or type, feature rich furnishings in marine colors such as bright blue, sunny yellow and deep red. Cabin inside the Cunard train

Inside the Britannia ranges from 152 to 243 square feet and includes all the amenities listed above, plus a half-bottle of sparkling wine on board. Passengers booked in these cabins are assigned to dine in the Britannia Dining Room, essentially the standard cruise ship’s main dining room but with ornate art deco touches.

On Queen Mary 2 – known for its symbolism transatlantic journey between New York City and Southampton in England – cruisers can also choose from special interior cabins overlooking the ship’s atrium.

Exterior cabin on a Cunard ship

Britannia’s ocean view rooms range from 133 to 201 square meters. Passengers in these cabins also dine in the Britannia Dining Room.

The exterior cabin includes the same amenities as the interior cabin. The most obvious difference is that you will have a window to look out to sea while sailing.

Balcony cabins on Cunard ships

Ranging in size from 228 to 472 square feet, these cabins feature the same general interior and exterior décor but feature semi-private balconies. These balconies give passengers their own outdoor space where they can enjoy fresh air from the comfort of their room, fully equipped with chairs and tables.

These accommodations include the standard amenities listed above and dinner in the Britannia Dining Room. On Queen Mary 2, passengers can choose from bay-style balconies; they provide a bit of shelter from the wind as they are more like an enclosed cocoon with open windows rather than a balcony open to all sides.

Britannia Club Balcony

Britannia Club rooms, which are one step above Cunard’s Britannia balcony accommodation, are balcony only. In addition to being slightly larger (248-470 feet), they also include additional amenities.

All the previously mentioned features come with these cabins. They also include upgraded tea and coffee makers, a pillow menu, plush bathrobes, a full bottle of sparkling wine on board, daily fresh fruit on request as well as priority boarding and embark. Visitors who make reservations there can dine at the Britannia Club Restaurant, which is a bit more sophisticated and sophisticated than the Britannia Restaurant but offers similar food.

Suites on Cunard ships

Princess Grill Suites

Princess Grill Suites are first class suites on Cunard ships; they offer access to an exclusive restaurant, Princess Grill, with fine dining options. Guests can also order menu items from the Grill via room service and off-menu items at the restaurant with advance notice. Passengers staying in Princess Grill Suites share the dedicated Grills Lounge or Concierge Lounge (available on Queen Mary 2) and sundeck with passengers booked in Queens Grill suites (see below).

Princess Grill Suites range from 335 to 513 square meters with separate living and sleeping areas as well as private balconies. Passengers can enjoy all the above inclusions, along with premium perks such as in-cabin atlas, concierge service, sparkling wine and chocolates on board, and complimentary mineral water , afternoon tea at Grills Lounge and bathroom with bathtub and shower. . (Note that bathtubs are not available on the Princess Grill level on Queen Anne.)

Queens Grill Suites

The most lavish suites on Cunard ships are the Queens Grill Suites, which range in size from 484 to 2,249 square feet. They come with all the above perks, plus additional books in the cabin, binoculars for use on board, fresh flowers, complimentary minibar drinks, a bottle of Champagne and chocolates upon boarding, and priority access Bidding where applicable. (Note that the Queen Anne offers a bathroom with a bathtub and shower on the Queens Grill level.)

Guests booked in this accommodation can access the Queens Grill Restaurant in addition to the common spaces — Grills Lounge, Concierge Lounge (when available) and sundeck — that guests booked in the Princess Grill Suites can also use. Each suite’s butler will deliver canapes in the cabin daily before dinner.

Queens Grill Suites are impressive, especially the duplex-style suites that are unique to Queen Mary 2. Three 1,566 square foot Duplexes (Windsor, Buckingham and Holyrood) and two 2,249 square foot Grand Duplexes (Windsor, Buckingham and Holyrood) Balmoral and Sandringham) are all aft on decks 9 and 10. These accommodations – some of which are larger than apartments on land – have stunning views through two-story windows.
