When Nintendo introduced the concept of Miis in 2006, we’re not sure anyone expected the cute little avatars to still be around fifteen years later.
We’re here in 2023, though, and they still stand out significantly on the Switch, standing out as playable characters like Super Smash Bros. Final, Luxury Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Switch Sportsand more.
However, for a 3D illustrator, the concept of Miis has proven to be a useful way to learn the ropes with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. Nick Ladd, creator of VR art and animation, used this software to build character creation tool called ‘Lil Ladds’ where you can create your own ‘Laddie’ using Use different head, eye, mouth, nose, etc shapes from the accompanying catalog.
You can check itch.io page for Lil Ladds right now and download the tool for yourself. It certainly looks similar to Nintendo’s Miis, but we think there’s enough visual flair here to set it apart quite nicely.
