Gadi supercomputer fights climate change

New capital will unlock powerful Australian simulators to giving the world’s scientists a better chance to deal with climate change.

The new facility’s first director, Andy Hogg, said Advanced computer simulations and models will disrupt open climate changeextreme weather events, past and future Earth systems.
“This will not only mean deeper and more robust research, but hopefully better decisions for the pressing and acutely stressful challenges facing our nation and world. face,” said Professor Hogg.
But he said computer models are only as good as the people behind them.

Based at the Australian National University, the Australian Community Earth and Climate System Simulator can calculate predicted weather and climate conditions from hours to decades in the future.

Open source looks promising. But maybe Professor Hogg It should also be mentioned that climate modeling systems are only as good as the data they use. Like Anthony Watts and others recorded, much of the world’s climate data can be described as junk.
