Australian anti-fossil fuel green billionaire Andrew “Twiggy” Forest is completing a gas import terminal – Are you successful with that?

Essay by Eric Worrall

I wonder if prices would increase if Australia switched from drilling its own gas to buying gas through Twiggy’s import warehouse?

  • Briefly: The first LNG import terminal in Australia is nearing completion at Port Kembla, near Wollongong.
  • Squadron Energy said the amount of gas brought in would be enough to supply most of NSW and Victoria’s needs.
  • What’s next? The squadron is negotiating to secure supply contracts with energy companies.

Australia’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal is almost built but it is still unclear who will buy the country’s gas.

The Twiggy Forrest-backed company claims imported gas could supply almost all of Victoria’s forecast gas needs and 70 per cent of New South Wales’ needs.

“I don’t think we could be in a better market moment than we are right now,” said Rob Wheels, CEO of Squadron Energy.

“The facility is now 90% complete and the market is facing severe gas shortages over the next few years.”

AEMO said the east coast could experience shortages as soon as next year if a particularly cold winter causes peak demand to spike.

It is clear that exploiting Australia’s giant shale gas deposits or establishing coal mine gas projects would eliminate the need to build a gas import terminal, but Andrew “Twiggy” Forest has long been the criticizes Australia’s domestic fossil fuel production and has repeatedly helped persuade politicians. prevent domestic energy projects.

Iron ore billionaire Andrew Forrest has called on leaders from across the political spectrum to get serious about climate action, or avoid it, in a fiery exchange over the Green Party’s new push to block climate change. New fossil fuel project in Australia.

In the mainstream media, the general perception was that the move essentially put a bomb on Labour’s entire carbon-reduction regime, in a classic example of Good things hinder good things.

Does Twiggy agree?

In a word, no.

“Those who do not understand the serious dangers of climate change will not be in any position of influence,” Forrest said.

“We are in a difficult climate situation here and I want every legislator, not just in the Green Party, not just in the Labor Party, not just in the Liberal Party or the [Nationals]every legislator in the world must strive to update scientific knowledge.

“If they don’t believe in science then they can leave. Right? They should not have any responsibility,” he said.

“Every lawmaker in the world should get up to speed on the science and act accordingly.”

This new gas import terminal comes just in time to add to the gas drilling and export capacity that Abu Dhabi announced at the recent climate conference.

I’m sure Twiggy had our best interests at heart when he advocated shutting down domestic energy production while building a new import terminal.

After all, it would be a shame if all the additional capacity Abu Dhabi announced at the last climate conference was duplicated by new capacity in Australia.

Doubling capacity would create the risk of oversupply and falling global fossil fuel energy prices, which could reduce household bills and delay the green energy transition.

We should all really thank Twiggy for ensuring energy continuity, by providing a gas import terminal just when supplies were becoming increasingly scarce due to all the energy project management agencies. domestic forces have vetoed it in recent years.
