Iron Bowl week is officially on, and trash talk has flown like toilet paper in Toomer’s Corner.
Auburn defender Bo Nix made waves in the competition on Monday after he appeared on “The Next Round” and claimed Alabama received preferential calls from officials. He based his statement on Saturday’s encounter between the second-placed Crimson Tide and No. 21 Arkansas, which included a Jameson Williams’ 40-yard touchdown goal was reviewed by officials and ultimately upheld in the 42-35 win for Alabama.

Nix watched the game from his parents’ home after missing Auburn’s 21-17 loss to South Carolina after ankle surgery (he also won’t be available to play in Saturday’s Iron Bowl). Despite that, he noted that “controversial calls in that game (raised) some questions, sure, I guess unless you’re an Alabama fan.”
The presenters then gave Nix the option to clarify his statements. The grassroots signal caller didn’t back down from his original statement, saying, “I mean, legally, I think you can watch the game and anyone who’s unbiased would think yes something different. It’s like.”

Saying this to Nix: He certainly doesn’t mind mixing things up, especially during head-to-head week. That said, he forgot to mention that Auburn has benefited from a number of dubious calls in the last year, including two in 2021. The first comes to Arkansas in 2020, when the the official claimed that Nix had hit the ball, even though it’s going backwards. That allowed the Tigers to kick a goal in the winning game when time against the Razorbacks expired, which prompted the SEC to ask for clarification.
Auburn has also benefited from calls this year. The first to arrive at that time-No. 10 Penn State, when officials mistakenly eliminated a point down and forced the Nittany Lions to beat on the third point. Penn State ultimately won with a score of 28-20. Georgia State game officials also determined that an Auburn receiver caught the ball, despite the fact that it hit the field. That allows the Tigers to have an easier field with the final victory being a game of indecisiveness in a 34-24 victory.
