Purebred Partner of Eclipse and Michael Bernard’s atom three months since the launch of the Breeders’ Cup graded bets, returning to South Florida in an attempt to rediscover his winning streak in the $125,000 Gal (G3) Forward Bet at Gulfstream Park February 4th.
Bred in Florida by Bernard and Tracy Pinchin and initially coached by Pinchin’s husband Jose, Atomally finished third in his debut last summer before scoring back-to-back victories. won 6 3/4 at the Florida Stallion Stakes My Dear Girl Stakes in October.
Caring for the daughter of the millionaire’s bay of 1st grade winners girvin was sold separately to Eclipse after My Dear Girl, and she was transferred to Hall of Fame coach Todd Pletcher and pointed to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Keeneland. Facing open company for the first time, she raced against the front group never more than 3 and a half minutes from the leader before tiring to finish seventh.
“I think it’s fine,” Pletcher said of her Breeders’ Cup performance. “Obviously that was against the best 2-year-olds in the country on a big field going two turns and all that, but she tried really hard. Now we look forward to rallying. back and help her keep going.”
Atom has been steadily growing since late November for her return, which Pletcher had hoped would come in the mile-long Cash Run Stakes on New Year’s Day at Gulfstream until being sidelined due to a mild illness.
“She’s doing well,” Pletcher said. “We had scheduled her for a run earlier and she had a bit of a heat, so that took us a bit off track. We were a bit late to start her but she trained. She’s had some success on the track, so I’m looking forward to her starting here.”
Jose Ortiz will be boarding the train from 3rd place in school 10 for the first time.
Also looking to get back on track in Forward Gal is the purebred Arindel Lynx who rallied to take third place, defeated 2 1/2 length Infinite diamond , in Cash Run. Lynx won the FSS Desert Vixen Stakes and the FSS Susan’s Girl Stakes last summer at Gulfstream before coming in second as Atomally Favorite in My Dear Girl.
Coach Carlos David said: ‘We’re trying to get her back to her three-year-old form. “Hopefully she can get over the rope first, but if not, she’ll wear it for the next race and it’ll be a lot more comfortable.”
Lynx is sprinting undefeated, winning the five, six and seven races with a total length of 7 3/4.
Jockey Joel Rosario, first time in Cash Run, returns.
“The next race is a month from now and that race is a mile long, so it’s going to be a good preparatory step. We’re trying to get her back in the game,” David said. “It’s not that she can’t hit 7/8. She’s got a slightly better distance, but she had a nice (Sunday) workout in the morning (Sunday) of 47. and changed. She feels good and Joel is back with her, so we’ll see what happens. I feel good about her.”
Ashbrook Farm and Upland Flats Racing’s The red carpet is ready coached by Rusty Arnold, will make her second year debut in Forward Gal after being undefeated in two starts with a 2. She broke her daughter with 10 six-distance sprints. before scoring 3 1/4 out of 6 1/ Long Fern Creek 2 stake, both at Churchill Downs.
Purebred Godolphin Twice as sweet was the winner of the 6 1/4 long Smart Halo last fall at Laurel Park in her equity debut for coach Brendan Walsh. Last time, the candy ride chubby finished fourth with three runs in the December 26 Letellier Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds Racecourse & Slotsalso wear six feathers.
Completing this field is the ultimate maiden winner Adelese’s smile , propose , scales , Sunset Positano and Undervalued property —the latter was 8 1/4 last November at aqueduct in her lonely beginnings; And The star Arella ranked fourth in the Cash Run.
