In today’s advertisement Nice price or no dice Toyota 4Runner, the seller claims that their 4X4 system will “take you anywhere you want”. Let’s see if its price tag means it’s really not going anywhere.
Screenplay for the 1979 movie alien written by Dan O’Bannon, but the idea of a haunted house in space was not his original idea. Originally, the story O’Bannon was creating was about a World War II bomber crew returning from a mission disturbed, not just by enemy artillery and fighter jets, but also by an evil gremlin that somehow got on the plane. O’Bannon will revisit the script for his segment in the 1981 film Heavy metal-titled B17. Neither movie fulfills the original gremlin premise and that is likely due to cars like yesterday. AMC Gremlin 1976 ruined the general appetite for such fare. At $9,500, very few people covet it today either. That was evident in both the comments and the final 83% loss rate of the No Dice car.
Do you remember Willy Wonka’s Eternal Goblin? It’s a kid’s candy with little spare change that never loses its taste and never gets smaller. Now imagine that one of your friends has an eternal goblin. Let’s say they sucked the bejeezus out of it for a month or so. Would you like to share it? I mean, even though it’s been in your friend’s mouth, biting into their teeth, and gushing out like a tsunami of saliva for weeks on end, it’s still going to be good, right?
That’s the kind of conundrum raised by today 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I say that because, even though it has covered a remarkable 269,000 miles so far, it still seems to have plenty of life left. Also, don’t spit!

According to the seller, the truck is in excellent shape for its age and has not only been well maintained throughout its life, but have also seen some updates and upgrades along the way. Aesthetically, it presents beautifully, and although there’s a front bumper and a three-inch lift below, it doesn’t look like it’s going to make its driver look like a yahoo or any other. whatever.
The ad also lists a variety of recent mechanical jobs. Some of those include new suspension and steering components, an almost new Cooper knob, and a refreshed timing belt for the 3.4-liter 5VZ-FE V6. That engine is backed by a rare five-speed shifter and 4WD when you need it, which the seller says will get you anywhere.
Furniture is also not excluded from the game update. There, the current owner added leather seats from a Limited as well as a later model’s dashboard and a modern stereo. There’s no word on what the original upholstery will look like, but the current Limited leather is starting to show signs of aging on the driver’s seat. The padding underneath seems fine.
Underneath all of that, the frame is said to be sturdy with just some minor rust on the surface making the truck less than polished. The seller says that they have managed to maintain that by using anti-rust paint.
However, the title is clear, in the photo, the truck is not wearing a current tag. The reason given for the sale was a desire to reduce the size.
Now we’ll need to see if the seller’s $13,500 price tag needs to be eased. what do you say? D.oes that seems a reasonable price for this long distance 4Runner? Or, doing the miles just doesn’t add to that much cash?
