Staff at a Apple stores in Oklahoma City voted on Friday to join a union, marking the second Apple store to be consolidated in the US.

The vote was a failure for Apple, which has opposed nationwide reunification efforts. It’s a victory for America’s Communications Workers, who now represent workers at an Apple store after separate consolidation efforts at stores in Georgia and New York City stalled.

The vote count had 56 votes in favor and 32 votes against. Approximately 94 employees are eligible for the CWA. Voting took place earlier this week.

“Apple retail employees at Penn Square are an incredible addition to our growing labor movement, and we’re thrilled to welcome them as CWA members,” the letter said. CWA’s sign-Treasurer Sara Steffens said in a statement.

“We believe that the open, direct, and collaborative relationship we have with our valued team members is the best way to deliver a great experience for our customers and for our team” , Apple said in a statement, adding that since 2018, Apple has increased starting wages in the US by 45%.

The National Labor Relations Board will confirm the votes next week. After that, Apple was forced to negotiate with the union about working conditions.

Apple has opposed the union, according to a CWA filing earlier this month, alleging that Apple management held anti-union meetings and threatened to withhold privileges from affiliated stores.

Apple’s first U.S. consolidated store, represented by the International Association of Aerospace Engineers and Workers in Maryland, is preparing to begin formal negotiations with Apple. According to Bloomberg NewsApple told employees there that they won’t get certain perks like upfront tuition or access to online courses, as it will need to be negotiated with the union.

Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world, reporting more than $365 billion in global revenue in 2021. It has about 270 stores in the US.
