The studio co-founded by former Valve writer Chet Faliszek and former Riot designer Kimberly Voll has announced an early access launch date for their first game, the collaborative first-person shooter. Anacrosis. On January 13, we will shoot sci-fi aliens aboard a sci-fi spaceship with sci-fi weapons and sci-fi gadgets. It has a nice ’60s sci-fi spy vibe. And it will also be available on Game Pass.
The game will go into early access with three feature-complete episodes, but the episodes aren’t entirely polished. They have an early access plan for 9-12 months, adding new episodes and modes, and responding to player feedback.
In a new devblog video, Faliszek explains, “we wanted to be able to chat with people in our gaming community, get real-life feedback, and try out a few things. And that’s really important, we want to include content. get in early so you can get a response, so it’s basically beta stuff.Usually what people do is create special beta servers to do that, but that means you just there are really hardcore people playing it, not the average type of player and we want to get people’s feedback etc. to do that, we think early access is the best format.”
I think The Anacrosis is influenced by its connection to Left 4 Dead. It’s hard not to compare these two, but one made by a much larger studio with much more time and money. And it’s coming very soon after Back 4 Blood, a zombie socialization collaboration created by L4D creators Turtle Rock with financial backing from Warner Bros. The producers of The Anacresis, Stray Bombay Company, are not on that scale. So while L4D connectivity is of interest, it will need to break out of that game’s shadow. Although Game Pass is a good service to reduce expectations and requirements, with people willing to explore and experiment without paying, so that can be useful.
Anacrosis will be coming on January 13th Sauna, Epic game store, Microsoft Store and Xboxes. It will also be available on PC Game Pass (new, better name for Xbox Game Pass for PC) and Xbox Game Pass for Xbox.
