Amalfi Coast and Jeanie B meet again in Royal North
Coaches Mark Casse and Josie Carroll will both feature in the June 4 Royal North Stakes (G2T) CA$175,000, the first grass-field betting race of 2022. Honeysuckle Season.

Purchased for $475,000 by Tracy Farmer at the November 2021 Livestock Share Sale in Keeneland, Amalfi Coast will look to defend its Royal North title following a harrowing win in last year’s run.
Raised in Ontario by Terra Farms, the now 6-year-old daughter of Tapizar was named Canada’s champion women’s sprinter in 2021 after a season in which she went 2-1-2 from five starts. Her other win last year was at Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3).
Amalfi Coast, sporting a lifetime record 7-3-4, will begin her 20th career on Saturday.
“We took her to Ocala and it took her a while to come back,” Casse said. “She ran hard and had a very successful season last year. It took her a while to try to get stronger. I think she was very tired. Between racing and selling — the sale. Horses are extremely hard on horses, mentally and physically— It’s been a long year, but she’s been training really well lately, and she often comes to her A-games, and I expect her to be.”
A 5-year-old daughter of Bated’s Breath Jeanie B has missed the trip to the winner’s circle by nose and neck in two of her three previous bets.
Last year, the chestnut mare, bred by E&R Bastian in the United Kingdom, lost to the Royal North Amalfi Coast. In her most recent attempt, the April 16 Long Branch Stake, an extended 5 1/2 Tapeta event at Woodbine, she was late to end by Dreaming of Drew .
“It’s twice (lost close) for her now. I feel like Jeanie B is training better than ever. She tries so hard. She has the slight edge that she has the advantage. a couple of races under the belt this year.”
Owned by CJ Thoroughbreds, Jeanie B is 4-5-2 from round of 16.
La Libertee, bred and owned by Farmer, is chasing his first bet win. 4 year old daughter of Structure Seasonal premiere in March at Gulfstream Parkranked fourth at Captiva Island Stakes.
Souper Sensational, a 4-year-old daughter of Curlin to Royal North with fifth place in the Lexus Raven Run Stakes (G2) at Keeneland October last year.
