All-inclusive Marriott’s First Luxury Collection, Nobu’s hotel empire, and other hotel news you missed last month


How can it be? January 2023 has come and gone with many of our New Year goals (don’t worry, I’ll do it next year).

While we were busy contemplating 2022, scrolling through Instagram memories and setting goals for 2023, a lot has happened in the hotel world.

Newly opened hotels left and right, one of the most anticipated hotels in the world threw a grand party full of celebrities and brands big and small that have been planning to grow for this year and the years to come.

Some of the bigger stories of the month include Hilton launches a brand new budget-friendly brand called Spark; Orient Express announced that it will launch superyacht service in 2026; and Marriott share with TPG how the company plans Extending the Edition brand without the famous hotelier Ian Schrager fee leader.

Oh, and Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano shared with us that travelers Don’t expect cheaper hotel rates this summer.

In the midst of all that, there’s still some exciting news you should know about, both in terms of corporate restructuring (look at you, Virgin!), and what new things to expect in some. your favorite brands and a host of new hotels we can’t wait to visit once they’re open.

Here’s the hotel news you missed in January.

Marriott’s 1st Luxury Collection all-inclusive resort is fully open

In fact, over the past two years, major hotel brands have doubled down on their all-inclusive offerings as travelers’ needs and desires shift to more easily planned trips, approx. further away and allows for a simpler stay.

In an effort to continue to push the trend of changing the all-inclusive stereotype (you know, bad food, substandard rooms and all that), Marriott has opened its first all-inclusive resort in his Luxury Luxury Collection, Cap Cana Conservation Area.

Just 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), this newly renovated resort is now fully open (although it was added to the collection last September).

It has a bunch of upgrades like a new poolside and beachfront restaurant in the shape of a canoe; a new nightclub, PM Pub; a new beach bar that also serves smoothies; and even a library with books highlighting Dominican culture.

Overall, this adults-only resort features 5 restaurants and 8 bars, 6 pools and a stunning beach, spa, and 324 suites that range in size from classic king-sized rooms to the multi-story Castle Island Suite on a private island, with an indoor dip. pool and more than 5,000 square feet of space to spread out.

Price from $597 or 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

2023 will be an important year for Nobu Hospitality

NOBU HOTEL

Ten years after launching the original Nobu Hotel, Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the iconic hotel brand created by renowned sushi chefs Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, is growing strong forward.

In fact, the brand recently announced that it will open five hotels this year alone, with locations in Rome; Marrakech, Morocco; Atlantic City, New Jersey; San Sebastian, Spain; and Toronto. Additionally, outposts in Bangkok and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, bring the portfolio to a whopping 32 properties.

At these luxury hotels, you’ll have fewer rooms than your standard luxury hotel — Marrakech has just 71 suites, Toronto will have 36 — plus mouth-watering sushi from Nobu, designer restaurant highlights and the chance to take a photo worthy of sharing on DeuxMoi.

Hyatt’s destination makes a mark in the UK

World of Hyatt members have a whole new reason to cross the ocean: the first property in the UK to carry the Destination by Hyatt brand, “a collection of hotels, resorts and homes independent, personal yet connected by a commitment to embody the true spirit of each location,” as the company explains.

Call Castle Roxburghe and near Kelso, Scotland, this historic manor house offers 102 guest rooms and 12 cottages across a range of buildings. The suites are designed in a traditional Scottish style (e.g. plaid, vibrant wallpaper, dark blue and deep blue).

It also offers a 12,000-square-foot spa, an 18-hole golf course, modern restaurants serving Scottish classics and hundreds of acres of scenic countryside to explore.

At Virgin, 2 becomes 1

In 1996, UK-based rock group Spice Girls released the song “2 Become 1” through Virgin Records. Incidentally in 2023, Virgin Hotels, with properties in places like Nashville, Las Vegas and EdinburghScotland and Virgin Limited Edition, the company behind one-of-a-kind retreats like Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island, also decided to become one.

Now, under one unified roof called Virgin Hotels Collection, the two brands “come together to further transform the luxury hotel business,” according to a statement from the company.

We’ll have to wait and see what this means for travelers in the long run (if any). It should be pointed out, however, that Virgin’s system is strong, with openings expected in New York City and Glasgow, Scotland, this year, along with outposts in Miami and Denver expected. ​in 2025.

Hilton opens 100th Tapestry Collection hotel

It was a party in York, Pennsylvania, where Hilton celebrated her 100th fortune in the Tapestry Collection, a group of independent minded hotels tends to emerge in smaller cities with demand for a trendy yet affordable lifestyle hotel.

Hotel, Yorktowne Hotel, Hilton Tapestry Collection, is also celebrating his own 100th birthday. It has played an important role in the community, hosting proms, weddings, and other important community events throughout its storied history.

Reborn as a Tapestry Collection hotel, the hotel has undergone a thorough renovation to bring style and technology to modern standards. It features 123 guest rooms, 27 long-stay suites, thousands of square feet of event space, and a rooftop lounge with panoramic views of the town below.

Rates from $107 or 29,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Coming soon: A new hotel brand rooted in the outdoors

CAPITAL STARWOOD GROUP

If you’re a lover of the great outdoors, you’ll definitely be a fan of Field & Stream Lodge Co.

It’s a brand new lifestyle motel venture formed in partnership between Barry Sternlicht’s Starwood Capital Group (the company behind brands like W Hotels and 1 Hotels) and the hotel and Real Estate Adventurous Journeys Capital Partners, or AJ Partners.

Accommodation based Seminary brand, a company that sells outdoor gear and dates back to 1871. The plan was to build hotels near national parks, ski resorts, coastal and mountain towns, starting with 20 to 25 guests. hotels in the United States and has been growing ever since.
