It’s hard not to give 1st place to R4but I’ll tell you why Ridge Racer DRAWthe series’ PS2 launch, made it here. R4 especially because of its high concepts, visuals, and soundtrack — but Ridge Racer DRAW is a better game to play. In fact, it might just be the greatest pure arcade racer of all time; one, fleeting moment when driving in rib racer It’s not hard to use or easy to understand, but just sharp, responsive, and dynamic. It’s not an easy game, but it’s definitely beatable — a bit sore in the butt, but fair about it. And practice is never a chore, because getting to grips with each vehicle on offer is absolutely rewarding. They really each have their own personality.
In a perfect world, the best rib racer will mix R4 grace with Ridge Racer DRAW physics. Still, RRV lots of off-track charm, too. Namco added the classic Seaside Route 765 from the original game into a network of interconnected circuits around Ridge City for this installment. It doesn’t quite fit R4 storytelling ambitions, but for longtime fans, it’s gratifying nonetheless. Add in the 60 frames per second gameplay enabled by the PS2’s cutting-edge hardware and you have yourself a gem of an arcade racer that can rival any prime example of the genre.
