Agong Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar becomes the first owner of the Hongqi L5 in the world – a stately limo with a 4.0T V8 engine
DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has become the first owner in the world to receive the Hongqi L5. His Majesty received the car after meeting today with the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries as well as current issues.
L5 is a luxury sedan manufactured by Hongqi, a brand owned by FAW Group. The second-generation model you see here was launched last April at Auto Shanghai 2023 and measures 5,980 mm long, 2,090 mm wide, 1,710 mm high.
There’s also plenty of legroom thanks to the extended 3,730mm wheelbase. For context, seventh generation (Z223) Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 5,470 mm long, 1,954 mm wide, 1,503 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3,396 mm.
With a retro-style design inspired by the classic CA770, the L5 retails from 5 million yuan (about RM3.3 million) in China. For the money, this model is equipped with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 gasoline engine with a capacity of 387 PS (382 horsepower or 285 kW), combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system.
