- Acura teases electric SUV concept to debut in Monterey next week

Acura is expected to launch an electric SUV concept at Monterey Car Week 2024 this month, and on Friday, the company teased the upcoming electric model with a photo.
While the teaser photo doesn’t reveal much, Acura has confirmed that the car depicted is based on a Dedicated EV platform developed by the company itselfand is expected to launch a production model in Ohio.
Acura and parent company Honda have been slow to bring reliable electric cars to market, at least in the United States, but they plan to speed things up this decade.
The new EV push has begun with 2024 Acura ZDX and 2024 Honda PrologueAlthough both SUVs use General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology and are built at GM factories.
For their next generation of electric vehicles, Acura and Honda plan for their own platformand in the United States, production will take place at Marysville Auto Plant Renovated in Ohio. The batteries will also come from an Ohio plant that Honda is Established with LG.
The platform will feature an electrical and electronics (E&E) architecture that uses Honda’s vehicle operating system and in-vehicle software, including a new generation of user interfaces and digital services. The platform is flexible enough to support vehicles in a variety of segments, although the first vehicles will be in the “medium to large” segment, Honda has confirmed. The target range will be 300 miles or more.
The first Honda vehicle to use this platform is expected to be a member of the Zero Electric Vehicle Line. The first 0 Series electric vehicle will be a US-built model and go on sale in 2026, which is likely when the Acura SUV previewed by this concept will also hit showrooms.
Monterey Car Week runs from August 9 to 18 and includes a number of enthusiast events, including The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Acura hasn’t said which event the concept will be shown at, but these shows of performance and luxury car enthusiasts are a great place to unveil a defining EV.
