The core idea of the exhibition revolves around the fictional archeology of Pokemon using materials such as quartz and copper crystals. Some locations will also feature minted Pokemon trading cards like Charizard and Blastoise, among others. Other locations will feature sketches and “field studies” of these crystallized Pokemon. Furthermore, the Nanzuka Underground exhibition will also sell merchandise such as crystal figures and luxury items.
The main attraction is the 1997 animated short co-produced by Daniel Arsham Pokemon anime series director Kunihiko Yuyama. The short animation begins with Ash and Pikachu engaging in a battle with another trainer. When Pikachu’s lightning nearly struck Celebi, the mythical Pokemon used its time travel abilities to transport Ash and Pikachu to the future.
