Big brand perks, boutique personality: Roomers Munich hotel review

In Munich – the centuries-old capital of Bavaria – you are immersed in the rich history, architecture, culture and The beauty of Germany. With only a few days to see, do, eat and drink it all, my husband and I were looking for a central hotel that could be both a stopover for our adventure as a retreat when the time came. rested. up for the miracles of the next day. We noticed that – and a little cheeky surprise – at the Roomers Munich hotel.

Get it fast

I know from words like “hedonistic” and “sexy” in the overview on the hotel website that Roomers Munich – a member of Marriott’s signature collection – is looking to appeal to travelers who value luxurious function as well as more sensory pleasures such as a well-blended cocktail, a savory meal and a soft robe and lounge slippers their hotel.

TARAH CHIEFFI / DANGEROUS POINTS

Upon arrival, Roomers Munich certainly lived up to that expectation. We were greeted with a smile and a cocktail from the lounge, which was filled with comfy couches and benches where guests could congregate. After a warm welcome, we entered the room. The variety of leather colors and soft textures give the room a cozy feel, while a host of smart features like bedside controls for lights and housekeeping requests speak for themselves. Beautiful design features.

Arrive there

Roomers Munich is part of a trio of properties in Germany under the Roomers brand – the other two are in Frankfurt and Baden-Baden. The fourth campus, also in Frankfurt, is slated to open in 2023. Roomers Munich is located in the city’s Westend neighborhood, less than 2 miles from the Medieval Old Town and just a few miles from the vehicle. tram, metro and bus a short walk. The nearest airports are Munich International Airport (MUC) and Salzburg Airport (SZG) in Austria, although MUC is much closer (about 30 to 40 minutes apart). We rented a car to get from the airport to our hotel, but public transport is also available.

Outstanding Features

  • The rooms are absolutely gorgeous with rich colors, soft linens, premium shower facilities, and convenient features like mini-fridges, Nespresso machines, and a tassel above the bed. allowing us to turn off the lights at night without waking up.
  • Food and drinks look and feel as good as eating and drinking. The Campari cocktail I was served at check-in was vibrant in color and not overly sweet, and the tiny jar of beer cheese perfectly complemented my hot fresh pretzels for breakfast.
  • Small details stand out. Quirky feathered toilet paper, glassware and bottle opener were available in our room and there were candy jars in the lobby with a set of tongs so guests could help themselves.

Limit

TARAH CHIEFFI / DANGEROUS POINTS
  • The mood lighting in the hallway as we stepped out of the elevator was leaning too moody. It was so dark that I didn’t know which way to go.
  • I probably wouldn’t stay here if I was traveling with my kids. I’m not ready to explain why there are mirrors to the right and left of our bed or why the restaurant menu says “Make your breakfast”.
  • I like to walk, so it doesn’t bother me personally, but it took quite a long walk (about 35 minutes) to get to the Old Town area where most of the touristic stuff we wanted to see.

Vibration

In a word, Roomers Munich is very charming. In a word, it’s a place for sophisticated, sophisticated adults (we only met one kid during our stay) to sip cocktails in the lobby, listen to late-night DJs in the bar bar, make a call to work one of the library’s leather chairs while surrounded by shelves filled with framed black-and-white photos and books on the coffee table, or retreat down the dimly lit hallways to your room. them for an intimate evening.

Everything about the property feels sumptuous and inviting, from the food and drinks to the numerous pillow-top corners where you can cozy up with your travel partner or the aforementioned food and drink.

Room

We stayed in a Deluxe room with a king size bed, this is one of the mid-range rooms of the hotel. The room is sleek and trendy with touches of marble, metal and bold colors commonly found in modern German design.

It’s not the biggest and not the smallest (334 square feet), but for us, it was just right. You enter a small foyer with a wardrobe with shelves and drawers, a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and two pairs of slippers.

To one side of the foyer is a black marble bathroom, with a sink, toilet, and glass-walled shower. There are two robes hanging in the room and delicious toiletries from Grown Alchemist. There is a small tool box with cotton swabs, nail files, makeup remover tissues and condoms, making the target audience obvious.

On the other side of the foyer is the bedroom. The king size bed has small nightstands on both sides – a light on one side and a Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker on the other. The black and white photos on the wall and the books on the coffee table give it a playful feel, but I also appreciate some of the more handy features, like a nightstand to control the lights or order room service. .

Opposite the bed there is a shelf for a mini-fridge, Nespresso machine and TV, with extra storage space. It’s worth noting that there’s a USB socket in sight, so I recommend packing an adapter with a built-in USB socket.

Food and drink

TARAH CHIEFFI / DANGEROUS POINTS

Every meal and drink we tried while staying at the hotel was top notch. We sampled cocktails from the lounge, which is my favorite place to have a drink. There are various seating areas, from pillow-lined couches to more private recesses, also with plenty of pillows where you can enjoy your drinks with other guests or a large seating area than for large groups. My husband and I both tried the Moscow mules, which are reasonably priced at 14 euros ($13.70) each.

For breakfast, we had a buffet, served in a space twice the size of an Asian restaurant in the evening. The buffet features a variety of fresh foods, including eggs, sausages, fruit, pastries, cold cuts and cheeses. I especially love the fresh, hot pretzels and the different dips and spreads you can go with them, like beer cheese and spicy mustard. And of course, indispensable Nutella for pastries. The hotel has packages that include breakfast, but when paid separately, it cost us 39 euros ($38.87) per person.

TARAH CHIEFFI / DANGEROUS POINTS

I craved curry and chips one evening, but I was comfortably lounging in my room with my robe and slippers. Luckily, I was able to use the TV in the room to order through room service, and I bought a Negroni for good measure. When my meal arrived, it was hot and served with ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. In total, my meal was worth 31 euros ($30.89) before tipping and it was worth every penny. Other dishes like schnitzel or juicy burgers and fries are tempting, but what can I say? I had a craving.

Amenities and services

We had the opportunity to experience all the atmosphere and amenities of the hotel during our stay, save for the spa and gym (we did exercise walking all over Munich). The full-service spa offers massages and facials, both starting at 55 euros ($54.81) and other treatments like body scrubs and manicures, as well as use the sauna, steam room and infinity pool. The spa uses products from Comfort Zone, an Italian skincare line designed to be clean and sustainable.

The gym is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with a variety of cardiovascular equipment such as ellipticals, treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines, as well as free weights and strength machines.

Every employee we came in contact with was friendly and helpful, whether we needed help figuring out how to get our car out of the garage (yes, it did) or asking for a drink recommendation. As it was our first time in Munich it was a pleasure to welcome and especially great that the staff spoke good English and didn’t make us feel guilty for being new to German.

Go

TARAH CHIEFFI / DANGEROUS POINTS

We walked to most of our destinations, but if you’re planning to visit Marienplatz, the square, the cathedral, the street market and other spots in Munich’s Old Town, you can easily catch it. tram or catching the metro, costs around 3 euros ($3) for a one-way trip and takes about 15 minutes. Just a block from the hotel, you can visit Augustiner-Brau Wagner KG, a lively pub and brewery founded in 1328. It’s also about an hour and 45 minutes by car or train from the hotel. famous area Neuschwanstein CastleThe inspiration behind Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.

Accessibility

The hotel’s common areas are accessible thanks to the wide corridors and stair-free entrance. Some rooms also have accessible features such as walk-in showers and wide doors. Guests can also request allergy-friendly rooms and air purifiers.

Test

If I find my way back to Munich (and I certainly hope it), I would happily stay at Roomers Munich again. I’m always on the lookout for hotels with a personality that doesn’t feel like a “cookie cutter,” and Roomers breaks the mold in a gentle, provocative way without taking themselves too seriously.
