GWM Ora Sports Review 2023

No, this is not a miniature Bugatti Galibier. That is Sports GWM Oraand it’s not rather confirmed for Australia… not yet.

With that said, GWM has worked on renaming the car – called the Lightning Cat overseas – for our market, and even launched a left-hand drive car for the media to drive at the Center. Australian Automotive Studies in Anglesea.

In other words, we’d be surprised if this sleek electric car doesn’t hit Australia’s roads at some point in the near future.

not like egg hatches, currently the most affordable electric vehicle on offer in Australia, the Ora Sport targets a slightly more premium audience. The fastest dual-engine model hits 100 km/h in just over four seconds.

How much does GWM Ora Sport cost?

Pricing for the GWM Ora Sport has not been finalized, as it has not been confirmed for Australia.

But GWM has made it clear that it has aggressive plans with the Ora Sport’s placement, describing it as a potential “EV performance bargain” alongside Tesla Model 3 And pole star 2.

Prices for the Ora hatch start at ~$45,000 drive-away and stretch to ~$56,000 drive-away. It is likely that the Ora Sport will sit above it on the price scale.

The Tesla Model 3 starts at $63,400 before on-road tolls, while the Polestar 2 starts at an average of $60,000.

What’s inside the GWM Ora Sport like?

The Ora Sport inside as well as the outside is impressive. With a floating center console, large display, and triple-dial housing around the digital toolbox, it looks like there’s nothing else on the market today – not even the Ora hatch.

Based on our very fast driving journey, the cabin is actually a bit tighter than the Ora up front. The driving position on our left-hand test drive left me with a wider legroom than in the Ora, and the cabin feels rather narrow.

However, the seats are lovely with their sport backrests and cushions, and the steering wheel looks and feels premium.

With Australian specs yet to be confirmed, it’s unclear whether our tester’s white skin will be standard, optional, or even available Down Under. With that said, the materials in our Chinese specification car feel quite luxurious.

Some of those impressive design touches are also very practical. Instead of having to scroll through complicated menus to change fan speed, as is the case with most GWM cars at the moment, you can simply use the knurled effect dial. Give us more than that, please.

There is also storage underneath the emerging central tunnel for a handbag.

As you’d expect, rear-seat space is influenced by that dramatic roofline. Headroom is a bit poor compared to the Model 3, and legroom is relatively tight behind the taller driver.

However, you still get the vents and USB power there, and the glass roofline makes for a bright, airy cabin.

It’s a similar story with the boot with an open mailbox. It’s not a hatchback (like the Model 3, but not the Polestar 2), making it harder to load large items.

In 4871mm . long, 1862m . wideAnd 1500mm . highon a Wheelbase 2870mmThis is not a small car, but some sacrifices have been made for the sake of style.

What’s under the bonnet?

Two variants of the GWM Ora Sport are offered overseas.

Nickel-manganese-cobalt combination entry-level vehicle 63kWh battery pack with front-mounted single-motor drive system 150kW power and 340Nm. The requested range is 555km on NEDC drive cycles are more tolerant.

Range-topper has a 85kWh NMC battery pack and dual-motor four-wheel drive system package 300kW And 680Nm. The requested range is 705km on the NEDC driving cycle and 100 km/h sprint confirmed 4.3 seconds.

How does the GWM Ora Sport drive?

Our fast drive is a single motor model, not a dual motor model.

With that in mind, the Ora Sport doesn’t feel overly sporty. Like the smaller Ora hatch, it has the immediate low punch you’d expect in an electric car, and it accelerates smoothly.

It’s fun to drive a two-engine car, because the single engine will gently push you back into the seat, not really against your chest.

Inside, you hear a fake engine sound through the speakers that makes people think of SUBARUBRZ or TOYOTA GR86.

We didn’t have time to skim through the (Chinese) menu to see what other options are on offer, but the fact that GWM is trying to bring a bit of internal combustion engine drama to its electric vehicles will satisfy a group of enthusiasts.

Of course, a lot of people will want to turn it off. That’s incomprehensible, as one of the key factors associated with electricity usage is silence.

Compared to the Ora hatch, the Sport feels quite comfortable at high speeds. There’s a bit of body roll, but that trait made the Sport a more comfortable cruiser than its sibling on our short test track.

Also contributing to that impression is the light and quick steering system.

You get what?

Since it hasn’t been confirmed for Australia, there’s no indication which devices will be standard.

We know GWM will offer both single- and dual-engine models where possible, but it’s likely that both will be fitted with the same kit as the Ora hatchback.

The car we drive is equipped with:

  • leather decoration
  • sport seats
  • Harman Kardon 11-speaker sound system
  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Michelin Pilot Sport EV Lốp Tires
  • 10.15 inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • panoramic glass roof

Is GWM Ora Sport safe?

The Ora Sport has not been crash tested by Euro NCAP or ANCAP.

However, the related Ora hatchback has a five-star safety rating.

GWM says the Ora Sport has one front-facing camera, four side-view cameras, four ‘surrounding’ cameras, five millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and a driver-in-car attention camera to control the systems. its active safety system.

How much does the GWM Ora Sport cost to run?

GWM Ora Sport will be powered by a Seven-year unlimited km . warranty like the wider range, with batteries backed by an eight-year warranty.

Five years of roadside assistance and five years of limited-price service are also included in new GWM cars in Australia.

The GWM Ora Sport will be an exciting addition to the Australian electric car market.

Say what you want about the way it looks – from some angles I really like it, from others a bit horrible – more options for buyers in a market with limited supply can only is a good thing.

Also, if you’re sick of the same designs and derivative cabins, the Ora Sport will be refreshing.

If the price is right, especially the dual-motor model has a chance to lure some buyers away from the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Polestar 2 Dual Motor.

For how much? That is harder to predict. But we would love to find out.
