Bentley launches special edition to see off the W12 engine

Production of the Speed ​​Edition 12 will be limited to 120 pieces for each of the company’s four model lines.

Under the bonnet there is a 6.0 liter twin-turbo W12 engine rotates 485kW between 5000 and 6000rpm, and 900Nm between 1500 and 5000rpm. All this fury is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As the name implies, each Speed ​​Edition 12 is based on the Speed ​​version. Most of the car’s shiny details have been blacked out and the special edition uses 22-inch alloy wheels with self-balancing badges.

A new Opalite paint option (pictured), which is primarily a light gray-green color, but is said to reveal a subtle bronze effect in sunlight, is available on Speed ​​Edition 12.

Naturally, there are 12 Speed ​​Edition badges everywhere, including on the outside, numbered engine panels and cabin embroidery. The number 12 is also machined into the visceral stop vent controller.

The seats have silver contrast stitching and a quilted pattern with three fading colors on the upper, while the door panels have the same quilted finish with accompanying contrast stitching.

In addition to all of this, all Speed ​​Edition 12 buyers will also receive a 15% scale model of the W12 engine block made from the same aluminum used for the production engine.

Bentley will discontinue the W12 engine in April 2024. The 6.0-liter W12 was first introduced in 2001 and consists of two 15-degree narrow-angle 3.0-liter VR6 engines joined together at 72 degrees.

Although the engine was available on the Volkswagen Phaeton and A8it is mainly found under the bonnet of Bentley cars.

The company says more than 100,000 W12-equipped vehicles have been sold during the engine’s lifetime, making it the most popular 12-cylinder engine series ever. It should also be noted that the Volkswagen Group’s W12 is by far the only mass-produced engine in this configuration.

Bentley is phasing out the W12 engine as it transitions to becoming an all-electric brand by 2030. Although the company’s first electric car isn’t expected to arrive until 2026, performance models aren’t. high in the future may have a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
