2023 Ford F-150 Lightning increases range to 240 miles, priced at $7,000

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning The automaker revealed Tuesday that it will expand its range to a second model year, and Ford has pressed its starting price to at least $7,000.

Range for the F-150 Lightning Pro with the standard 98 kWh battery pack increased from EPA estimated 230 miles to 240 miles, and price increased from $39,974 to $46,974, excluding undisclosed destination fees (expect. a $100 increase to $1,795). The sharp 17.5% price increase, the first since Lightning launched last May, followed a similar move from other automakers.

“Due to significantly increased material costs and other factors, Ford has adjusted the MSRP beginning with the opening of the next F-150 Lightning order,” Ford said in a press release.

Ford said it has respected the original MSRP for all customer orders so far, adding that pre-orderers have received an invitation to order but have instead renewed their reservation because of the truck. Their wishes are not available will receive a separate offer.

“Those with existing orders pending delivery are not affected by these price adjustments,” said Marin Gjaja, Model E customer manager. “We announced pricing prior to reopening the order bank so that our pre-orderers can make an informed decision about ordering Lightning.”

Starting June 1, Lucid raises price $15,000 for its Air sedan but honored all 30,000 pre-orders held by those who closed the price before that date. After a March price hike for those who pre-ordered the R1T-style pickup truck, Rivian experienced a swift backlash that prompted the introduction of base rates for existing bookings.

Ford did not disclose whether the F-150 Lightning Pro will be offered to general consumers, not just fleet buyers as it has been since launch. The standard battery is available on the Pro, XLT ($59,474) and Laries ($74,474) versions. That’s a corresponding increase of $6,500 to $7,000.

Prices have also increased for models with the 131 kWh extended battery pack, but the 320-mile range estimate remains the same. The XLT high rose $8,500 to $80,974, the Classroom rose to $85,974, and range extended Platinum topped the lineup with a $6,000 increase to $96,874.

The 2023 F-150 Lightning may come in two new greys, Avalanche gray and Azure grey, and the Lightning could be equipped with Ford’s Pro Tractor Driving Assist System that controls steering, braking and throttle while driving the trailer. One Special Service Vehicle Packages ready for the police was announced at the end of July.

Orders for the sold-out electric pickup will reopen on Thursday.
