“I think he will race in Saudi Arabia,” Lanz continued, “but I have to ask them because they are starting some activities here. I will try to keep the horse here because I love the horse. I was expecting (to pay) $400,000, maybe $500,000. Everyone had the same horse, so I told them to prepare for a fight because this horse ran very well and had been thoroughly tested. This trade is very difficult.”

The first trading session was a bit slow but trading picked up as the afternoon progressed.

“I think maybe some of the sales are just getting started,” Wojciechowski said. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of those horses made in a post-sale context. I think a little bit of that is about buyers getting their feet wet, getting their feet wet. April (Spring Sale) begins as a mid-market sales and has evolved into premium and mid-market (sales). It’s fair to say in March we did a good job of getting middle-market horses into the bracket that time.

“This is still the first sale of the year and it’s easier for buyers to say, ‘I’ll wait and see what happens in the next few months.’ Again, this is a 2 year old sale, a little bit of everything for everyone.”

The spring sale continues on April 17 with hips 303-604 expected to enter the ring starting at 10:30 a.m. ET. As of Monday evening, 73 horses had been withdrawn from the second session on Wednesday.
